Serially curable resins useful in additive manufacturing
11654620 · 2023-05-23 · ·

Provided is a method of forming a three-dimensional object, which may include the steps of: (a) providing a carrier and an optically transparent member having a build surface, the carrier and the build surface defining a build region therebetween; (b) filling the build region with a polymerizable liquid that comprises a reactive blocked monomer and/or prepolymer comprising a self-polymerizing monomer and/or prepolymer blocked with a light-polymerizable blocking group; (c) irradiating the build region with light through said optically transparent member to form a solid polymer scaffold from the reactive blocked monomer and/or prepolymer and also advancing the carrier away from the build surface to form a three-dimensional intermediate; and then (d) heating and/or microwave irradiating, the three-dimensional intermediate sufficiently to degrade the scaffold and regenerate the monomer and/or prepolymer in de-blocked form, which monomer and/or prepolymer in turn self-polymerize, to form said three-dimensional object.

Thermoplastic polymer film with interpenetrating polymer network

A thermoplastic polymer film comprising a multilayer film having an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) layer and a polymer layer is provided. The multilayer thermoplastic polymer film may possess beneficial and desirable properties useful in protecting surfaces from harmful environmental conditions or elements, such as for example, stain and scratch resistance as well as high gloss. Methods of making the multilayer film with interpenetrating polymer network are also provided.

Cross-linkable thermoplastic powder for powder based additive manufacturing

A cross-linkable powder for use in a selective laser sintering (SLS) process for additive manufacturing is disclosed as well as a novel manufacturing process to form a 3D object using said cross-linkable powder. The manufacturing process makes it possible to create interlayer covalent bondings between deposited layers of cross-linkable powder such that 3D printed objects are achieved having improved mechanical strength, less object deformation and/or no warping.

Modified thermoplastic polyurethanes and methods of extruding same

Described herein are modified thermoplastic polyurethanes, methods of reactively extruding the modified thermoplastic polyurethanes, and methods of using the modified thermoplastic polyurethanes. The modified thermoplastic polyurethanes are micro-crosslinked through reaction with a functional polyolefin, have significantly improved tensile strength and elongation compared to unmodified thermoplastic polyurethanes, and may be extruded.

Methods for making dental aligners from multilayer sheets

A multilayer sheet comprising first, second, and third layers is provided. The first layer consists of a co-polyester having an elongation at break of greater than 70%. The second layer consists of a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer having an elongation at break of greater than 200% and a hardness of about 60 A to about 85 D. The first layer has a hardness greater than the hardness of the second layer. A mold is provided and the multilayer sheet is thermoformed over the mold to form a plurality of tooth-receiving cavities configured to receive and position a patient's teeth from a first arrangement toward a second arrangement. Excess material is trimmed from the thermoformed multilayer sheet to form the multilayer dental aligner.
