According to some aspects, a method is provided of casting an object from a mold, the method comprising obtaining a mold comprising a hollow shell of rigid material, the material comprising a thermoset polymer having a plurality of pores formed therein, providing a metal and/or ceramic slurry into an interior of the mold, exposing at least part of the mold to a low pressure environment so that a net flow of gas is produced from the interior of the mold into the low pressure environment. According to some aspects, a method of forming a porous mold is provided. According to some aspects, a photocurable liquid composition is provided, comprising a liquid photopolymer resin, particles of a solid material, in an amount between 30% and 60% by volume of the composition, and a water-soluble liquid.

Cutting-edge structures and method of manufacturing cutting-edge structures

A novel cutting-edge structure and method and apparatus for manufacturing the cutting-edge structure is provided. The cutting-edge structure is comprised of naturally derived or renewable material at greater than 50% by volume fraction. In one embodiment, the naturally derived material is a cellulose nanostructure such as a cellulose nanocrystal. The cellulose nanocrystal is processed using a base or mold structure to provide a cutting edge of any shape such as linear or circular edge structures. The process includes dual cure steps to produce an optimal cutting-edge structure without shrinkage. The formed cutting-edge structure can be utilized as a razor blade as it is formed with very sharp tip and edge suitable for cutting hair. The base structure can form one or more cutting-edge structures simultaneously.

A housing has a front surface, a rear surface, and side surface connecting the front surface with the rear surface. The housing is formed by injection molding. A first sub-passage is formed in the housing and communicates a first sub-passage inlet formed in the front surface with a first sub-passage outlet formed in the rear surface. A second sub-passage is formed in the housing and communicates a second sub-passage inlet formed in a midway portion of the first sub-passage with a second sub-passage outlet at a position different from the first sub-passage outlet. A flow rate detection unit is provided in the second sub-passage. A mold parting mark is formed in the rear surface of the housing at a position away from an inner opening edge of the first sub-passage outlet.

Impregnation mould having needles for producing a part from a woven preform

The invention relates to an impregnation mould for manufacturing a turbine engine part, made of composite material, obtained from a preform made of a weave of fibres, said mould having first and second portions provided with respective recesses that define a cavity capable of receiving the preform, in which at least one injection means of the mould allows a resin to be injected in order to impregnate said preform, wherein said at least one injection means has a plurality of tubular injection needles, which are capable of extending from at least one of the first and second recesses to penetrate at least the weave of the preform in order to allow resin to be injected.

Gas-based material compression and portioning

An apparatus includes a fixed assembly and a reciprocating assembly. The fixed assembly includes a hopper, a first gas manifold, and a dispensing chamber, and the reciprocating assembly includes a channel assembly defining a channel conduit, a shield plate vertically aligned therewith, and a second gas manifold. The reciprocating assembly may move, in relation to the fixed assembly, to a first position to enable the channel conduit to be filled with bulk compressible material from the hopper, a second position to enable compressible material to be pushed from the channel conduit to the dispensing conduit and to be compressed in the dispensing chamber according to a first gas directed through the channel conduit by the first gas manifold, and a third position to enable the compressed material to be pushed out of the dispensing conduit according to a second gas directed through the dispensing conduit by the second gas manifold.

Bladder mandrel package

A bladder mandrel package, used to manufacture a composite structure, includes a mandrel and a wrap ply, surrounding the mandrel to form a wrapped mandrel.
