Payment application initiated generation of payment instruments
In some examples, a system and method for generating a payment instrument are described. The method includes receiving a unique signature that a recipient intends to associate with the payment instrument; verifying that the received feature meets an acceptability criterion; generating a representation of the received signature, wherein the representation is in a form capable of being physically associated with the payment instrument, and wherein association is established by embedding or exposing the representation on the payment instrument; and causing physical generation of the payment instrument having associated therewith the representation of the signature.

Tensioning control device
A tensioning control device having a first motor that applies a torque to a first end of a substrate in a first direction and a second motor that applies a torque to a second end of the substrate in a second direction that is generally opposite the first direction is disclosed. In this manner, the first motor and the second motor apply torque to the substrate in opposing directions, thereby placing the substrate in tension. In one embodiment, the first motor applies a torque to the first end of the substrate that is equal to the torque applied to the second end of the substrate by the second motor. By placing the substrate in tension in this manner, an actuator is able to incrementally move the substrate in a forward direction and a backward direction independent of the tension applied to the substrate.
OPTICAL SCANNING DEVICE IN OPTICAL SCANNING DEVICE
The optical scanning device includes a swingable reflector; a blocking unit that is provided in the reflector to move in linkage with the reflector; and a sensor unit that includes at least a first sensor unit and a second sensor unit, wherein each of the first and second sensor units includes an output unit, which is a light generator or an electromagnetic wave generator configured to output a detection target and a detection unit, which is a light receiver or an electromagnetic wave receiver configured to detect the detection target. The output unit is at a position that faces the detection unit. When the reflector is in a predetermined swing angle range, the blocking plate blocks a path of the detection target between the output unit and the detection unit.

Recording apparatus and recording method
A recording apparatus includes a recording unit configured to form an ink image on a transfer body, a conveying unit configured to convey a recording medium, a transfer unit figured to transfer the ink image from the transfer body to the recording medium conveyed by the conveying unit, a reading unit configured to read the recording medium having the ink image transferred thereto, and a post-processing unit configured to apply a pressure to the recording medium having the ink image transferred thereto to perform post-processing for improving a gloss of the ink image on the recording medium. The post-processing unit applies a pressure to a recording medium not to be read by the reading unit, and applies to a recording medium to be read by the reading unit no pressure or a lower pressure than the pressure applied to the recording medium not to be read.
