The technology provides a fidget device having a movable, manipulable object disposed within a sleeve that a user can move back-and-forth and otherwise manipulate through movement within the sleeve. In at least one embodiment, the fidget device is a pen having a marble or ball within the sleeve that is manipulable by the user holding the pen as a fidget device.

A writing, drawing, marking and/or painting utensil or cosmetics implement or input device for contact-sensitive surfaces, wherein the utensil/implement/device includes at least one shank element made of plastics material or a plastics-containing wood substitute. A writing instrument that includes and elongate stylus and at least one stabilizer element. The elongate stylus has a distal inscription tip, a body, and a proximal end. The body is interposed between the distal inscription tip and the proximal end. The at least one stabilizer element extends from the elongate stylus in a direction non-parallel to a longitudinal axis of the elongate stylus. The at least one stabilizer element engages a hand of a user in response to the user grasping the elongate stylus.

A compact writing instrument includes a barrel and a cap. A majority of a length of the barrel and a writing element carried thereby may be received by the cap when the barrel and the cap are placed in a stored position, providing a compact stored arrangement. The cap may be secured to the barrel in a writing arrangement that extends a length of the writing instrument significantly; for example, to a conventional writing instrument length. Engagement features of the cap and barrel may include steep threads that enable the cap to be assembled with and disassembled from the barrel with one rotation (360°) or less. A clip on the cap may include a closed end that defines a receptacle, with the closed end and receptacle extending beyond a corresponding end of the cap. In addition, the closed end and receptacle may extend partially over the corresponding end of the cap.
