This disclosure provides a composting system and method. The system comprises: (a) a container configured to contain a composition and comprising (i) insulated walls, (ii) an air intake and (iii) a vent; and (b) a composition contained in the container. The composition comprises aerobic microorganisms, a carbon source and a nutrient source sufficient to support growth of the aerobic microorganisms. The container is sufficiently insulated so that heat generated by aerobic respiration is sufficiently retained in the container to maintain a heat gradient in the container. The container is dimensioned to generate a stack effect that moves air into the air intake, through the composition and out the vent. The moving air provides oxygen to support growth of aerobic microorganisms, making the stack effect self-sustaining as long as a carbon source and nutrients last. The insulation can maintain temperatures in the composting cell sufficient to kill pathogenic microorganisms.

The method comprises the steps of: - providing a tank reactor, 5 - providing acidogenic bacteria and/or acetogenic bacteria and the waste stream to the tank reactor, - hydrolysing the waste stream, forming a reaction mixture; - providing a gas flow to the reaction mixture for removing carbon dioxide from the reaction mixture; 10 - providing the reaction mixture to an anaerobic sludge reactor, - removing a compound comprising phosphate from the reaction mixture within the anaerobic sludge reactor, and - removing gas from the reaction mixture within the anaerobic sludge reactor.

The invention also comprises valuable substance fractions that are enriched after the method according to the invention, more particularly phosphorous-containing and phosphorous- and ammonium-containing compounds such as fertilisers and synthesis gas as an energy source and as a valuable substance for the chemicals industry. The invention comprises devices for carrying out the methods. With the method and devices according to the invention, valuable substances can be completely recovered from wastes, sludges and sewage sludge and given a new use. The methods and devices are particularly suitable for recovering phosphorous and ammonium in the form of plant-available fertiliser, for recovering metals and heavy metals, for producing synthesis gas and for obtaining hydrogen from synthesis gas, i.e. for mobility.

A method for promoting germination of underground buds and growth of new-born root systems of ratoon sugarcane is to cut stubbles based on a depth survey of the stubbles of the ratoon sugarcane, particularly including steps of: for a ratoon sugarcane field after mechanical harvesting, cutting the stubbles with a sugarcane stubble cutting machine, and remaining underground stubbles of 5-7 cm after cutting; for a ratoon sugarcane field with manual harvesting, cutting the sugarcane with a hoe, and remaining underground stubbles of 10-12 cm after cutting, so as to realize sugarcane cutting and stubble cutting in one step; thereafter, applying fertilizers and pesticides, and hilling up, wherein the underground buds of the stubbles are controlled to be distributed 10-15 cm below ground after hilling up; and finally conducting whole film mulching. The present invention is advanced and practical, and easily used and promoted.
