Amorphous energetics
Stabilized, amorphous high energetic compositions having crystallization inhibiting polymers dispersed throughout the solid composition. The compositions disclosed herein are an improvement over crystalline high energetic compositions in that such disclosed compositions are stable and possess physical properties desirable in propellant and high explosive applications.
Enhanced Slag Formation For Copper-Containing Gas Generants
Gas generants comprising copper are provided that have improved slagging ability. In certain aspects, the gas generants include a fuel, an oxidizer comprising basic copper nitrate, and a large particle size endothermic slag-forming component, such as aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH).sub.3). The gas generants may be cool burning, e.g., having a maximum flame temperature at combustion (T.sub.c)about 1,900K (1,627 C.). The disclosure also provides methods of enhancing slag formation for a gas generant composition that comprises copper. Such methods enhance slag formation during combustion of the gas generant composition by at least 50%.

Noble Gas Infused Emulsion Explosive
Provided is an emulsion explosive composition having voids/bubbles formed from one or more noble gases dispersed therein. Also provided is a method of manufacturing an emulsion explosive composition that includes mechanically and/or pneumatically infusing an emulsion explosive composition with a noble gas so as to create voids/bubbles formed from one or more noble gases. The noble gases can be contained within closed-cell micro-spheres that are dispersed throughout the emulsion explosive composition.

Energetic composites from metallized fluoropolymer melt-processed blends
An energetic composite comprises a metal powder; poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF); and poly(lactic acid) (PLA). The metal powder comprises micrometer- or nanometer-sized particles, and the ratio of PVDF to PLA is between about 1:3 to 3:1. The metal powder comprises between about 4-32% wt of the energetic composite, and the metal powder consists of aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg), or boron (B). A method of making an energetic composite material, comprises melt-blending a metal powder with poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and poly(lactic acid) (PLA).

ILLUMINANTS AND ILLUMINATION DEVICES
A self-glowing solid material comprises a man-made metal mixture containing at least one rare earth metal and an oxide of iron. The material is inducible by flame initiation to self-glow with yellow-to-red colors (577-to-700 nanometer wavelengths). A stealth tracer ammunition comprises a projectile body having a tip and a base, and a solid pellet disposed in the base. The pellet may be made from the above-mentioned self-glowing solid material or another suitable material. The pellet becomes incandescent as a result of being heated when the ammunition is fired. The incandescent pellet emits a glow observable only from behind when the ammunition travels downrange after being fired. An illuminant comprises a bimodal blend of a man-made metal mixture containing at least one rare earth metal and an oxide of iron. The bimodal blend is a blend of smaller-sized fragments and larger-sized pellets. The illuminant is capable of ignition and dispersion in response to ballistic energy to create illumination. An illumination device comprises a body having an interior cavity, the body configured to be launched as a projectile or configured to contain projectiles. An illuminant is disposed in the cavity, the illuminant comprising a bimodal blend of a suitable illuminant material. The illuminant is capable of ignition and dispersion in response to ballistic energy to create illumination.
Pyrotechnics containing oleoresin
A pyrotechnic composition includes a fuel, an oxidizer, flow and rate control agents and oleoresin capsicum as an irritant. The composition is useful in crowd control products. The composition contains rate control ingredients to maintain combustion at a temperature below the point of degradation of the oleoresin capsicum, balanced with a booster material to maintain combustion.
