TWO-DIMENSIONAL POLYMERS COMPRISED OF A COMBINATION OF STIFF AND COMPLIANT MOLECULAR UNITS

A family of new and novel molecules for mechanically superior two-dimensional (2D) polymers is described herein. By combining stiff carbon-containing cyclic polymer nodal units with more compliant linear polymer bridge units in an ordered, 2D repeating molecular structure it is possible to tailor the mechanical properties of 2D polymers and their assemblies to provide high stiffness, strength, and toughness. Furthermore, the inherent dimensionality of 2D polymers and their ability to be stacked into ordered and chemically interactive ensembles gives them inherent benefits in a variety of barrier and structural applications over current stiff and strong linear polymer technologies.

The composition comprises: (A) a crosslinkable silicon group-containing organic polymer; and (B) a crosslinkable silicon group-containing compound that forms, by means of light, at least one type of amino group selected from the group consisting of primary amino groups and secondary amino groups. The crosslinkable silicon group-containing organic polymer (A) is preferably at least one type selected from the group consisting of crosslinkable silicon group-containing polyoxyalkylene polymers and crosslinkable silicon group-containing (meth)acrylic-based polymers.

The polymers form nanoscale molecular aggregates in aqueous environments, which have hydrophobic interiors within which anticancer drugs may be solubilized. The polymers optionally feature attached antibodies, receptor ligands, and other targeting moieties which mediate adherence of the drug-carrying aggregates to targeted cancer cells.
