NOVEL POLYURETHANE CURATIVES
20190352481 · 2019-11-21 ·

A class of alkanol amine ligands reacted with bismuth carboxylates lends unique curability properties to isocyanate and polyols for production of polyurethane for CASE applications, including growing demand for polyurethane spray-foam. The amino-alcohol ligand, when associated with bismuth neodecanoate, offers improved moisture and solvent resistance during B-side (polyol) storage, cure rates analogous to tin-based curatives, and overall good final physical properties of the cured polyurethane.

There is provided a member for electrophotography, which contributes to formation of a high-quality electrophotographic image. The member for electrophotography includes an electro-conductive substrate and an electro-conductive layer as an outermost layer, wherein the electro-conductive layer contains a resin having a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic cation structure, an anion, and a specific carbon black.

Hydrophilic anti-fog coatings

The present invention relates to hydrophilic anti-fog coatings. In particular, the coatings use two types of nanoscale particles, colloidal silica and porous organosilicate micelles, in a polyurethane matrix. The invention is an anti-fog coating for optically clear substrates (polycarbonate, polyurethane, nylon, polyester and other clear plastics) without the need for a primer and glass substrates with an additional primer layer, comprising monosized colloidal silica nanoparticles and porous organosilicate micelles in a polyurethane matrix. The silica is preferably 1-5% by weight and the micelles are loaded at 0.1 to 10% volume percentage by volume. The polyurethane prepolymer is dissolved at 10-40% by weight in a mixture of tertiary amyl alcohol and diacetone alcohol to customize for dip, flow or spray coating processes.

Polymeric phenolic antioxidants

A phenol compound comprises a phenyl group, a hydroxy group directly bonded to the phenyl group, and at least one polymeric substituent bound to the phenyl group. The polymeric substituent comprises three or more monomers units. A method for producing a polyurethane polymer comprises the steps of (a) providing a polyol; (b) providing a polyisocyanate compound; (c) providing the phenol compound described above; (d) combining the polyol, the polyisocyanate compound, and the phenol compound to produce a reaction mixture; and (e) allowing the polyol and the polyisocyanate compound to react to produce a polyurethane polymer.

Additives for improving polyurethane foam performance

Polyurethane foam compositions and processes to make flexible polyurethane foams are disclosed. Polyurethane foam is produced in the presence of additives comprising guanidine derivatives. Improvements in physical properties such as air flow, dimensional stability, tensile, tear, elongation and foam hardness is observed when these additives are present in polyurethane formulations. In addition, these additives can minimize polymer degradation under humid ageing conditions resulting in foam products with better mechanical properties.

Reduction of aldehydes in amine catalysts

The present disclosure provides a method for reducing the aldehyde content in an amine catalyst by treating the amine catalyst with a treating agent selected from a cyclic urea substituted with at least one isocyanate reactive group, a free radical scavenger and a mixture thereof. The treated amine catalyst may then be used in the production of polyurethane materials which exhibit reduced aldehyde emissions.
