An adherable film includes a substrate that is substantially free of a flame retardant material and has a top major surface and a bottom major surface. An adhesive layer disposed on the bottom major surface of the substrate has a continuous pattern. The adhesive layer is made of an adhesive that is substantially free of a flame retardant material. In a plan view, the continuous pattern defines a plurality of discontinuous non-adhesive portions of the substrate without the adhesive. Each discontinuous non-adhesive portion is completely surrounded by the continuous pattern. The adherable film including the adhesive layer having the continuous pattern exhibits an improved flame retarding characteristic relative to a discontinuous adherable film having a substrate with a same material composition as that of the substrate of the adherable film and a discontinuous adhesive layer with a same material composition as that of the adhesive layer of the adherable film.

SELF-HEALING METAL-LIGAND POLYMERIC MATERIALS

In various aspects, a self-healing polymeric material is provided, as well as methods of making a self-healing material. The self-healing material may include a polymer network defining one or more ligands having a metal ion coordination site. The polymer network may be a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel and the metal ion may be a transition metal, like zinc. The metal ion is distributed in the polymer network and capable of interacting with the at least one metal ion coordination site via a reversible coordination bond. The polymer network is capable of self-healing a mechanical crack or cut in less than or equal to about 30 minutes at ambient conditions and in certain variations, in as little as 5-10 seconds. The self-healing polymeric materials can be used to form pressure sensitive adhesives.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FLEXIBLE SEALANT WITH DENSITY MODIFIER

In certain embodiments, the disclosed sealant comprises a one-component, closed-cell, semi-foam, sealant using gas-filled, flexible, organic microspheres to create a product that is elastic and compressible under pressure without protruding in an outward direction when compressed, thereby allowing the applied sealant to compress in an enclosed, maximum-filled channel unlike typical mastic sealants (while retaining the ability to rebound). This allows the sealant to function as a gasket, and, once fully cured, to have properties including vibration damping, insulating, and condensation resistance. The sealant can be formulated as an air barrier or a vapor barrier and at various degrees of moisture resistance. It may be applied by different packaging variations including aerosol can (bag in can or bag on valve), airless sprayer, cartridge tubes, foil tubes, squeeze tubes, and buckets to be applied using a brush, trowel, spatula, etc. The disclosed sealant can also be formulated to be smoke-resistant and flame-resistant.
