Beer filter and method of filtration
10179894 · 2019-01-15 · ·

A beer filter and a method of brewing beer is disclosed, the beer filter including an outer sheath, an outer permeable sheath disposed in the outer sheath, and an inner permeable sheath disposed in the outer permeable sheath. The method includes steps of disposing an outer permeable sheath within an outer sheath, filling an outer permeable sheath with hops, disposing an inner permeable sheath within the outer permeable sheath, and causing beer to flow from a vessel through and out of the inner permeable sheath, through the hops in the outer permeable sheath, out of the outer permeable sheath and into the outer sheath, and from the outer sheath and back into the vessel.

Hop acids formulations and methods

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for improved hop acids formulations including myristic acid which have improved stability characteristics. The formulations may be used as an anti-bacterial agent in fermentation processes.

Provided is an extraction system which can be used to recover light oils and other organic materials during a supercritical or subcritical fluid extraction. The extraction system may include a dual purpose pressure vessel which can be used as an independent, full spectrum extractor by adding organic material within a compartment within the vessel and passing liquefied, compressed gases onto and through organic material as well as a separator to separate the extracting fluid from the extracted material. Filter membranes having different size pore openings designed to capture and retain various compounds based on their molecular size may be used in conjunction with the pressure vessel. The filter membranes are part of a filtration system which may be incorporated as an internal component of the pressure vessel or may be utilized at different locations within the extraction system.

Flavor enhanced hop materials

Compositions which include hop materials infused with exogenous flavorant matrix and methods for infusing hop materials with a flavorant matrix are provided, wherein the method includes emulsifying a flavorant additive into a carrier system to provide a flavorant matrix; and infusing the hop material with the flavorant matrix.

Shelf Stabilized Hops Product

A shelf-stabilized form of hops may be produced by mixing hops with rice bran and magnesium oxide. The stabilized hops may be contained in a paper filter for use during brewing. The rice bran may act as a surfactant or emulsifier during the boil phase of the brewing process. The magnesium oxide may accelerate isomerization during boiling, and by keeping the ingredients in a paper filter container, the magnesium oxide may be in close contact with the hops during beer making. It is believed that the magnesium oxide or other metal salt may offset the degradation of alpha acids at room temperature by slowly isomerizing the alpha acids. A typical form of shelf-stabilized hops may contain rice bran at amounts of 25% or more by weight of hops, and magnesium oxide at 3% or more by weight of hops. The mixture may be ground and pelletized prior to being contained in a paper filter.
