Determination of CD and/or MD variations from scanning measurements of a sheet of material
09783929 · 2017-10-10 · ·

CD variations and/or MD variations in scan measurements are determined from spectral components of power spectra of scan measurements taken using two or more scanning speeds. Dominant spectral components having the same spatial frequencies identify CD variations and dominant spectral components having the same temporal frequencies identify MD variations. Dominant spectral components are extracted from a noisy power spectrum (PS) by sorting all spectral components into an ordered PS. A first polynomial representing background noise of the ordered PS is used to set a first threshold. Spectral components of the ordered PS that exceed the first threshold are removed to form a noise PS. A second polynomial representing the noise PS is used to set a second threshold. Spectral components of the PS that exceed the second threshold are identified as dominant spectral components of the PS.

An apparatus including a caliper measuring sensor arrangement, a mass measuring sensor arrangement, and a stabilizing arrangement. The caliper measuring sensor arrangement measures caliper of the web. The mass measuring sensor arrangement measures at least one of the following: a basis weight of the web, a moisture content, a water weight, dry weight of the web. The stabilizing arrangement stabilizes the web. The stabilizing arrangement including at least a part of the mass measuring sensor arrangement.

Augmented reality of paper sheet with quality measurement information
09739012 · 2017-08-22 · ·

Augmented reality techniques for monitoring and controlling continuous sheetmaking systems superimpose real-time sheet quality measurements onto images of the sheet and/or machine during production. A portable, hand-held computer device that is equipped with a camera, such as a tablet or smartphone, enables an operator to direct the device at the sheet along specific locations of the papermaking machine and view an indication of one or more quality measurements that are superimposed over the image of the paper. The operator can assess and resolve problems associated with the sheet being produced and/or machine.

Pneumatic dust hood with plug preventer
09725852 · 2017-08-08 · ·

A pneumatic hood for a tissue—or papermaking machine is disclosed. The hood has an inlet to admit dust and air. The inlet is defined, in part, by an inlet flap that is hingedly connected to the body of the hood. The inlet flap is connected to one or more linear actuators, such as pneumatic cylinders, by a linkage such that the linear actuators drive the inlet flap between positions in which the inlet is wider and positions in which the inlet is narrower. Thus, the size of the inlet can be increased to clear large obstructions.

Methods of controlling a manufacturing line used to produce paper products by reading marks on a paper web

A method of producing a paper product. A paper web is formed on a paper machine. The paper web has a plurality of sections. The web is analyzed to perform at least one of inspecting and identifying properties. The web is marked with a plurality of marks. At least one mark is marked at each of the plurality of sections. Thereafter, the web is wound with a winder to form a parent roll. A paper rating is assigned to each section based upon properties in that section that are identified. The web is unwound from the parent roll on a converting line having a plurality of operational parameters. At least one of the plurality of marks is read with a mark reading unit. The paper rating associated with the at least one mark is obtained. At least one operational parameter of the converting line is changed based upon the rating.
