Retrofit reinforcing structure addition and method for wind turbine concrete gravity spread foundations and the like
A retrofit reinforcing structure addition and method for an existing gravity spread foundation for a wind turbine or the like having a central pedestal and a spread section is provided. The retrofit structure addition includes a collar formed around the pedestal of the spread foundation. The collar is formed by a shape sustaining member, such as a CMP, placed around the pedestal to define an annular ring between the CMP and the pedestal that is filled with cementitious material. Radial bolts extend horizontally through the collar and into the side of the pedestal. Soil and/or rock anchor bolts extend vertically through the collar, the spread portion of the foundation and into the underlying soil and/or rock substrate. The radial and anchor bolts are post-tensioned to ensure that the cementitious material of the collar remains in compression and the bolts are always in static tension, strengthening the original gravity spread foundation and extending the fatigue life thereof.
UNIVERSAL POLE FOUNDATION WITH INSTANT CAP
An instant cap (I-Cap) for a pole foundation and an all-in-one universal pole foundation are provided. The I-Cap is a just-in-time manufactured device located at the foundation's top, filling the gap between the pole foundation cavity's inner wall and the pole. The I-Cap transfers lateral pole forces to the foundation wall while providing pole cavity moisture protection as well as protection from pole uplift and rotation forces. Both the pole and the foundation are manufactured to precision. The all-in-one universal pole foundation can be manufactured just-in-time having information at hand about the pole shaft dimensions specified. The pole rests on either a flat or tapered structure at the bottom of the pole cavity with a through opening to enable moisture to evacuate the cavity. The pole is secured to the foundation using at least one through bolts.

Edge protection safety bund system
An edge protection safety bund system (10) for use in connection with a rock bund made of rock fill. The edge protection safety bund system (10) comprises a bund module (12) having a barrier wall (14) and a base plate (16). The bund module (12) is preferably one of a plurality of bund modules (12) arranged side by side to form an extended barrier wall (14). The barrier wall (14) of each module (12) extends substantially perpendicularly upwards from the base plate (16), and a support web (18) extends at an angle from a rear face of the barrier wall (14) to an upper surface of the base plate (16). In use, when rock fill is dumped onto the rear of the bund modules (12), and allowed to flow back to its natural angle of repose behind the barrier walls (14), it creates a rock bund (20) with a front face formed by the extended barrier wall (14).

CELLULAR AND BALLASTED UNIVERSAL POLE FOUNDATION
A volumetric enclosure or enclosures and/or a cellular structure pole foundation is provided. The volumetric enclosure/s or cellular structure pole foundation may employ several embodiments: (1) a single or a plurality of volumetric enclosures at the vertical center of the foundation below the foundation's pole cavity; (2) a single or a plurality of volumetric enclosures at the vertical center of the foundation below the foundation's pole cavity and a cellular structure within the foundation walls and base; (3) a cellular structure throughout the entire body of the foundation; (4) a cellular structure within the foundation walls; (5) the above embodiments with fill material consisting of gas or fluid or solids retained inside the foundation walls; and (6) the above embodiments with solid fill material that can reach the foundation core through the pole cavity.
Universal pole foundation
A pre-fabricated pole foundation provided employing a cavity to retain pole assembly of different profile, shape, size, and material interchangeably, a tapered structure onto which the pole rests, and recesses in the pole cavity wall enabling foundation hoisting, plumbing and anchoring, whereas the cavity wall is capable to accommodate for electronic devices enclosure and fill material provides structural support to an embedded pole or the embedded pole and foundation.

Granular magnetically strengthened structures
Exemplary inventive practice provides a structure that is attributed with superior resistance to loading. For example, an inventive structure includes two coaxial axisymmetric (e.g., cylindrical) shells and a granulation-filled matrix material occupying the peripheral space between the shells. According to some inventive embodiments, the granulation-filled matrix material has a loading-responsive matrix (e.g., shear-thickening fluid or highly rate-sensitive polymer) and granules dispersed therein. When the inventive structure encounters pressure loading at its exterior shell, the consistency of the loading-responsive matrix becomes thicker or firmer and thereby promotes, among the granules, interactive mechanisms (e.g., friction and/or arching) that reinforce the granulation-filled matrix material. According to some inventive embodiments, the granulation-filled matrix material has a magnetic-field-responsive matrix and magnetizable granules dispersed therein, and is magnetically fortified via application of a magnetic field (e.g., continuously applied where the matrix is magnetorheological fluid, or temporarily applied where the matrix is rheological fluid containing diamagnetic particles).
