Method and apparatus for removing or reinstalling riser pipes of a riser bundle
11623312 · 2023-04-11 · ·

A method of servicing a pipe bundle or riser bundle employs a specially configured hoist having a rail that supports multiple lifts. A selected satellite pipe/conduit of the pipe bundle is both lifted and pulled horizontally in order to remove it from a plurality of supports that hold the satellite pipes together in spaced apart positions. During removal of a satellite pipe, the lifts elevate, then travel with and hold the pipe as it moves horizontally away from the bundle.

Methods for tripping a drilling rig or a workover rig

The present disclosure provides a method for running a drilling rig or a workover rig including a plurality of stands into a wellbore. In step 1, position information of the stands in a finger board area may be recorded with a control system. In step 2, the stands may be placed. In step 3, a position of a traveling block may be adjusted so as to move a power elevator to a second waiting position of a racking platform. In step 4, the stands may be pushed with the pipe racking device. In step 5, the second stand may be moved and stabbed in the first stand with an iron floor man. In step 6, a joint between the first stand and the second stand may be made up. In step 7, the traveling block may be moved downward. In step 8, the traveling block may be moved upward.

WELLBORE FRICTION MEASUREMENT, METHOD AND APPARATUS
20230073307 · 2023-03-09 ·

An apparatus and method for measuring position and magnitude of downhole mechanical friction. The apparatus comprises sensors that reside along, or in-line with, a section of equipment that is installed or removed from a wellbore. The sensing device is configured to measure friction relative to the wellbore during a work-over or other well intervention procedures where said section of equipment (tubing, rods, cable/wireline, etc.) is installed in, or removed from, the wellbore. Recorded measurements are processed to correct for dynamic forces to provide a measure of friction through the wellbore. Additionally, a method for applying the map of wellbore friction to the design and analysis of a rod actuated pump is presented. The method and apparatus presented herein pertain specifically to the handling of continuous rod, continuous tubing, or wireline/cable passing through the wellbore as measured at surface.

OFF SHORE RISER FIXATION SYSTEM AND METHOD
20220316285 · 2022-10-06 · ·

A method approximates and connects an off shore riser duct to a floating unit, includes installing a tubular coupling recipient on the floating unit at a riser coupling level, the coupling recipient having an annular side wall extending around a longitudinal axis. A pulling device is on the floating unit at a pulling device level above the riser coupling level. The pulling device pulls a line extended through the coupling recipient and connected to a pulling head at a riser duct upper end. The riser duct upper end is pulled into the coupling recipient, providing a locking mechanism to lock a coupling adapter against downward withdrawal. Extending the line along a curved deviating surface deviates the pulling direction. The curved deviating surface is formed by a deviating member connected to the coupling recipient at a distance from the longitudinal axis smaller than an annular side wall to longitudinal axis distance.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INITIATING AN EMERGENCY DISCONNECT SEQUENCE
20230145664 · 2023-05-11 ·

Systems and methods for initiating an emergency disconnect sequence (EDS) are provided. In an aspect, a disconnection system is provided and configured to initiate the EDS, and includes a controller including a processor and a memory operably coupled to the processor. The controller receives, from a set of motion reference units (MRU(s)) operably coupled to a flexible joint, position data generated by the set of motion references units and associated with the joint when the joint is operably coupled to and disposed between a drilling riser and a lower marine riser package (LMRP). The controller determines, based on the position data, an angular offset of the joint. The controller sends, to a subsea control pod disposed at or adjacent to the LMRP, a trigger signal in response to determining that the angular offset exceeds a predetermined threshold, such that the subsea control pod initiates the EDS.

Automatic pipe doping apparatus

A pipe doping apparatus comprises a bucket assembly including a base and a bucket supported on the base and having an inside volume, a lubricating unit having at least one lubricant applicator inside the bucket; and a source of torque configured to rotate the bucket and/or the lubricating unit relative to a tubular. The apparatus may include a cleaning unit and/or a drying unit and the source of torque may be a fluid jet in either. At least one lubricant applicator may be retractable and may be actuated between a retracted position and an extended position by centripetal force. The apparatus may further include a positioning assembly supporting the base and the rotary bucket assembly and a controller connected to and controlling each of:—the positioning assembly, the cleaning unit, the drying unit, and the lubricating unit.
