Aircraft blade and methods of forming and repairing an aircraft blade

A method of making an aircraft blade is provided. The method comprises the steps of: assembling two or more fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts into a blade assembly; and welding the fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts together utilising an additional thermoplastic located at least at locations where the parts will abut when assembled. The additional thermoplastic has a melting or softening temperature lower than a melting temperature of each of the fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts being assembled. The step of welding comprises heating the blade assembly to a temperature above the melting/softening temperature of the additional thermoplastic and below the melting temperature of each of the fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts so as to melt/soften the additional thermoplastic and thereby weld the fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts together to form the aircraft blade.

Acoustic resonance excited heat exchange

New exemplary heat exchange configurations that incorporate internal or external surfaces equipped with perturbators, for changing the thermal behavior of the system, or for modulating the surface temperature distribution of the flow surfaces. This is achieved by applying an acoustic wave to the fluid flow in a heat exchange passage, and selecting the frequency of the acoustic exciting wave to be the same as the acoustic resonance frequency of the heat exchange passage itself. As the traveling waves interact with the boundaries confining the heat exchange passages, constructive interference of the incident and reflected waves give rise to a standing wave. Thus, the heat exchange passages act as a resonator, and by superimposing this standing wave on the separating and reattaching fluid flow, significant heat transfer improvement can be achieved. This is accomplished without the need to significantly increase the pressure required to achieve the desired through flow.

A method for manufacturing a component of a rotary machine, the component extending to an axial direction and a radial direction vertical thereto, and has an inner channel, extending from a first end of a core of a center of the component and to a second end at a radial limiting surface of the component and which is at least partially closed. A blank includes the core of the component and is limited by an outer surface in the radial direction. The blank is subtractively processed in a first subtractive process step, such that an outer contour is elaborated in the area of the outer surface, which extends in the radial direction, and a part of the channel is manufactured, which radially extends in the blank to the first end. The channel is finished by a build-up process on the blank.

System and method for performing an in situ repair of an internal component of a gas turbine engine

In one aspect, a method for performing in situ repairs of internal components of a gas turbine engine may generally include inserting a repair tool within an interior of the gas turbine engine such that a tip end of the repair tool is positioned within the gas turbine engine and an exterior end is positioned outside the gas turbine engine. The method may also include positioning the tip end of the repair tool adjacent to a defect of an internal component, wherein the defect defines a fillable volume along a portion of the internal component. In addition, the method may include intermixing two or more constituents of a repair agent within the repair tool at a mixing location defined within the gas turbine engine, and expelling the repair agent from the tip end such that the fillable volume is at least partially filled with the repair agent.
