The seal system has a seal carrier having: an axially-extending wall having an inner diameter (ID) surface; and a radially-extending wall having a first surface. A seal is carried by the first member and has: an outer diameter (OD) surface; and a seal face. A seat is carried by the shaft and has a seat face in sliding sealing engagement with the seal face. One or more springs bias the seal carrier relative to the first member so as to bias the seal face against the seat face. At least one of the seal carrier inner diameter (ID) surface and seal outer diameter (OD) surface is formed by a coating.
Rotor blade sealing structures
A rotor blade is provided. The rotor blade includes a main body having a shank, an airfoil extends radially outwardly from the shank, and a platform. The main body includes a pressure side slash face and a suction side slash face. A slot is defined within each of the pressure side slash face and the suction side slash face. The slot of the pressure side slash face and the slot of the suction side slash face each include an upstream end portion that defines an end and a main body portion extending from the upstream end portion. The upstream end portion tapers from the end to the main body portion. The main body portion further includes a retention wall that covers a portion of the end and that defines an opening. The retention wall further includes an inner retention surface. The retention wall defines an offset from the opening.
Pressure-balanced carbon seal
A seal segment has an arcuate body having: a first end; a second end circumferentially opposite the first end; a first face; a second face axially opposite the first face; an inner diameter (ID) face; and an outer diameter (OD) face. The seal segment is shaped to interfit with a plurality of identical seal segments first end to second end to form a seal surrounding a central longitudinal axis. The first face has: a circumferential channel closer to the ID face than the OD face; and a plurality of channels extending from the circumferential channel to the OD face. The ID face has: a circumferential channel closer to the first face than the second face; and a plurality of channels extending from the circumferential channel to the second face. The ID face circumferential channel has an open end.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE SYSTEM
An internal combustion engine, ICE, system, includes a turbocharger having a turbine and a compressor for compressing intake air and feeding the intake air to the ICE. A turbo turbine unit is disposed in an exhaust gas path downstream the turbocharger to receive exhaust gas from the turbocharger. The turbo turbine unit having a turbine wheel, a bearing housing defining an inside volume for containing lubrication oil, and a sealing arrangement positioned in the vicinity of the turbine wheel for preventing lubrication oil from escaping from the inside volume of the bearing housing to an exhaust duct of the turbo turbine unit. A buffer air conduit extends between a selected position at the compressor and a buffer air inlet of the turbo turbine unit. The buffer air inlet is in fluid communication with a buffer air channel inside the turbo turbine unit to direct buffer air to a position in-between axially opposite arranged annular sealing members to provide a counter-pressure against at least one of the annular sealing members.
Stator outer platform sealing and retainer
A system for retaining stators and reducing air leakage in a gas turbine engine having an axis includes a stator having an inner platform, an outer platform, a low pressure side, a high pressure side, and at least one foot, and designed to turn air. The system also includes a case positioned radially outward from the stator and having at least one recess designed to interface with the at least one foot to resist movement of the stator relative to the case. The system also includes a bladder positioned between the outer platform of the stator and the case and designed to receive pressurized fluid having a greater pressure than ambient pressures experienced at the low pressure side of the stator and to further resist movement of the stator relative to the case in response to receiving the pressurized fluid.
Seal assembly for gas turbine engine
A seal assembly for a gas turbine engine having a seal formed of a carbon material; and a seal seat positioned for rotation relative to the seal, wherein the seal and the seal seat each have a sealing surface which together define a sliding seal, and further having a carbon film on the sealing surface of the seal seat.
Steam turbine and method for operating same
A steam turbine having a low-pressure inner housing NDIG and a high-pressure inner housing HDIG within a steam turbine outer housing, a reheater downstream of the HDIG and upstream of the NDIG wherein the first steam inlet section of the HDIG faces the second steam inlet section of the NDIG, a process steam deflection section for deflecting process steam out of the first steam outlet section into a gap between an inner wall of the steam turbine outer housing and an outer wall of the HDIG and of the NDIG, a high-pressure sealing shell for sealing the upstream end-section of the HDIG, a low-pressure sealing shell for sealing the upstream end-section of the NDIG, the high-pressure sealing shell located adjacent to the low-pressure sealing shell, wherein process steam can be drawn from the HDIG and conveyed to a region between the high- and low-pressure sealing shells.
STATOR PLENUM WITH COLLET SEAL
Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to implement a stator plenum with collet seal. The stator plenum for a gas turbine engine includes an outer shell circumscribing a centerline axis, a first end of the outer shell coupled to an engine casing at a first coupling, the first coupling to form a first seal, a second end of the outer shell coupled to the engine casing at a second coupling, the second end formed by a thickened portion of the outer shell, the second coupling to form a second seal, and a cavity formed by the outer shell, the cavity to contain cooling flow to reduce a temperature of a turbine.
VARIABLE GUIDE VANE SEALING
A variable guide vane assembly is provided for a turbine defining a core air flowpath. The variable guide vane assembly includes an airfoil band defining a flowpath surface and a cavity. The variable guide vane assembly further includes an airfoil including a first end extending at least partially into the cavity of the airfoil band and an opposite second end, the airfoil extending generally along an axis between the first end and the second end and being moveable generally about the axis relative to the airfoil band. Flexurally actuated self-sealing plunger apparatus
An apparatus for sealing such a gap may be a plunger seal which may include a flap arm comprising resilient sheets and a wall arm comprising resilient sheets. A proximal end portion of the flap arm may include a closeout seal coupled to the flap. A proximal end portion of the wall arm may include a plunger having a geometry corresponding to that of the closeout seal so the plunger may be matingly received by the closeout seal. When positioned in a gap, the plunger seal may exert a force to urge the flap arm towards the flap and to urge the wall arm and resilient sheet towards the structure to seal the gap.
