A first intake manifold is connected to a first group of cylinders, a second distinct intake manifold is connected to a second group of cylinders and a first, respectively a second, exhaust manifold for receiving the exhaust gas emitted from the first, respectively the second, group of cylinders. An EGR line is connected to the first and second exhaust manifolds. A mixing unit includes a four-way valve having a first inlet connected to an air line, a second inlet connected to the EGR line, a first outlet connected to the first intake manifold and a second outlet connected to the second intake manifold. The first inlet is connected to the air line, the second inlet is connected to the EGR line. The first outlet and said second outlet form a substantially X-shape. The first inlet and said second inlet are coaxial. The first outlet and second outlet are coaxial such that the first inlet is diagonally facing the second inlet and the first outlet is diagonally facing the second outlet.

METHOD FOR PREDICTING UREA CRYSTAL BUILD-UP IN AN ENGINE SYSTEM

A method for predicting urea crystal build-up in an engine system when operating according to an intended drive cycle. The method includes providing data representing engine operational conditions for the internal combustion engine during the intended drive cycle, wherein the data comprises values for at least engine speed and engine torque distributed over a time period representing the intended drive cycle; determining values and time variation for at least one exhaust parameter during the time period of the intended drive cycle when the engine system is operated according to the engine operational condition data; providing a reference relation between values and time variation for the at least one exhaust parameter and an expected urea crystal build-up in the engine system when operating the engine system at different engine operational conditions, predicting urea crystal build-up in the engine system when operating according to the intended drive cycle by comparing the determined values and time variation for the at least one exhaust parameter with the reference relation.

An internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle is disclosed. The engine has at least two combustion chambers and an exhaust gas tract with at least one exhaust gas duct associated with the combustion chambers and through which exhaust gas from the combustion chambers can flow to guide the exhaust gas to a turbine of an exhaust gas turbocharger. An exhaust gas return line branches off the exhaust gas duct and has an adjustable shut-off element, by which a respective cross section, through which exhaust gas can flow, of the exhaust gas recirculation line and the exhaust gas duct can be adjusted. The internal combustion engine can be operated in a cylinder shut-down mode, in which introduction of fuel into a first of the combustion chambers is prevented and introduction of fuel into the second combustion chamber takes place. A method for operating the internal combustion engine is also disclosed.

Assembly and motor vehicle

An assembly for a motor vehicle has an exhaust gas-carrying pipe in which an adjustable element is arranged to control an exhaust gas flow through the exhaust gas-carrying pipe. An actuator is used to adjust the adjustable element. The actuator is connected in a planar manner to a vehicle structure via a connecting surface.

In an exhaust gas purification apparatus provided in an exhaust as path of an engine, it is an object of the present invention to shorten a pipe length of a bypass path bypassing a purification catalyst as short as possible, thereby reducing initial costs. The exhaust gas purification apparatus includes a purification casing in which at least the purification catalyst is accommodated. The purification catalyst purifies exhaust gas from the engine. The purification casing is integrally provided with the bypass path separately from the purification path in which the purification catalyst exists. The bypass path makes the exhaust gas bypasses the purification catalyst without passing through the purification catalyst.
