Mixer in an exhaust gas system
10480372 · 2019-11-19 ·

The disclosure refers to a static mixer for use in an exhaust system for a combustion engine and for the mixing of an additive injected into an exhaust system. The mixer consists of a tubular housing encircling a central axis X. The housing comprises an input opening at the end in the direction of central axis X and at the opposite end an outlet opening, whereby the inlet opening is used for the supply of additive injected into the exhaust system. The housing is closed in the section of the inlet opening and in the section of the outlet opening in circumferential direction around the central axis X. The static mixer is designed to generate little counterpressure, to guarantee rapid and complete reducing agent preparation and at the same time to be resistant to production tolerances. For this purpose, housing forms a tubular segment related to an XY plane parallel to central axis X of mixer and at right angles to a main flow direction S downstream of the XY plane, which features several openings as perforations orientated in radial direction to central axis X and a tubular segment downstream of the XY plane which features a recess in which several guiding plates are arranged.

An injector for delivering a working fluid into a working environment is disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the injector includes a pre-metering chamber with a control valve controlling fluid delivery rate and a swirl chamber, in which a swirling flow is created and atomization is achieved at low injector pressure when it is released. In another embodiment, the injector includes a swirl chamber and an atomization element with a bore, through which a control valve is positioned. The control valve forces a working fluid flow through the atomization element when the injector is energized to create a metered swirling flow. To avoid issues with deteriorated working fluid, a purging apparatus is used for emptying working fluid residue in the injector, and a special control method is used when the injector works in a high-temperature working environment.

Method and system for engine water injection

Methods and systems are provided for injecting water stored in a water reservoir at a plurality of locations in an engine system, including directly into engine cylinders, upstream of a turbocharger turbine, and at an exhaust manifold, and controlling a water level of the water reservoir. In one example, a method may include supplying the water stored in the water reservoir to one or more of a water injection system, a windshield wiper system, an engine coolant system, and a drinking water system based on water supply conditions and responsive to engine operating conditions. When the water level is low (e.g., below a threshold), supply to the water injection system may be prioritized.

EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM

The present application provides an aftertreatment system for treating an exhaust stream of an engine. The aftertreatment system may include a selective catalyst reduction system positioned downstream of the engine, a secondary catalyst positioned downstream of the selective catalyst reduction system, a first gas sensor positioned between the engine and the selective catalyst reduction system, a second gas sensor positioned between the selective catalyst reduction system and the secondary catalyst, and a third gas sensor positioned downstream of the secondary catalyst.

System For Neutralizing The PH Of Exhaust Condensate

A water neutralization system that includes a first source of water that is acidic and a second source of water that is basic. A storage reservoir communicates with each of the first source and the second source, and includes a pH sensor that is configured to transmit a signal indicative of a pH of the water stored in the storage reservoir. At least one valve controls fluid communication between the storage reservoir and at least one of the first source and the second source, and a controller communicates with each of the pH sensor and the valve. Based on the signal indicative of the pH of the water stored in the storage reservoir, the controller instructs the valve to adjust an amount of water received from at least one of the first source and the second source to neutralize a pH of the water stored in the storage reservoir.

Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems are known and are generally included in the exhaust systems of diesel engines in order to treat the exhaust gases of such engines. Such systems typically involve the introduction of a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust passage of an engine. DEF dosing systems are limited by the amounts of DEF that can be delivered without deposits forming on surfaces of the aftertreatment system. A numerical model of a hydrolysis catalyst is provided. The model comprises a spatial model of a hydrolysis catalyst to be modelled, where the hydrolysis catalyst is divided into a plurality of discrete spatial units. For each of the discrete spatial units, values for a plurality of matter state parameters are determined.
