Pneumatic control valve
A control valve for a gas turbine engine air starter. The control valve includes a spherical or ball valve element rotatable between a closed position and an open position to connect an internal flow passage to the air starter. A series of camming elements interconnecting a piston and a valve stem for the spherical valve element convert linear displacement of the piston into rotational movement of the valve for rapid opening.
Combustor cap assembly having impingement plate with cooling tubes
A combustor cap assembly, combustor and related method are disclosed. The combustor cap assembly includes: an impingement plate defining a plurality of impingement cooling holes with a first side of the impingement plate in fluid communication with a cooling air plenum. The assembly also includes a combustor cap plate coupled to the impingement plate, such that an impingement air plenum is defined between a second side of the impingement plate and the combustor cap plate. Tubes extend from at least a portion of the plurality of impingement cooling holes at the second side of the impingement plate and extend partially towards the combustor cap plate through the impingement air plenum. The plurality of impingement cooling holes provides for fluid communication between the cooling air plenum and the impingement air plenum through the tubes.
Flight vehicle air breathing engine with isolator having bulged section
A flight vehicle has an engine that includes air inlet, an isolator (or diffuser) downstream of the air inlet, and a combustor downstream of the isolator. The isolator includes a bulged region that has at least one dimension, perpendicular to the direction of the air flow from the inlet to the combustor, that is at a local maximum, larger than comparable isolator dimensions both upstream and downstream of the bulged region. The bulged region stabilizes shocks within the isolator, and facilitates flow mixing. The flow diversion of high energy flow around the outermost walls of the bulged section into the center of the flow at the aft end of the isolator, increases mixing of the flow, and results in a more consistent flow profile entering the combustor over a wide range of flight conditions (Mach, altitude, angle-of-attack, yaw) and throttle settings.
METHODS AND APPARATUS TO AUTONOMOUSLY DETECT THERMAL ANOMALIES
Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to autonomously detect thermal anomalies. Disclosed examples include an example apparatus to detect engine anomalies comprising: at least one memory; instructions in the apparatus; and processor circuitry to execute the instructions to: control a plurality of infrared cameras to capture a baseline image set, the baseline image set including at least two thermal images; generate emissivity data based on the baseline image set; provide the baseline image set and the emissivity data to an artificial intelligence model, the artificial intelligence model to generate a reconstructed image set; determine a difference between the baseline image set and the reconstructed image set; and in response to the difference exceeding a threshold, generate an alert indicating detection of an engine anomaly.
METHODS AND APPARATUS TO AUTONOMOUSLY DETECT THERMAL ANOMALIES
Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to autonomously detect thermal anomalies. Safety apparatus
A safety apparatus for containing a release of energy from a tension stud of a rotor assembly. The safety apparatus includes a containment member configured to pivot about a pivot location. The containment member includes a tail located on a first side of the pivot location, an elongate region on a second side of the pivot location, the elongate region defining a longitudinal axis and an arm located towards a distal end of the elongate region and projecting away from the longitudinal axis. The containment member is configured to be connected to a tool apparatus. In use, the containment member is configured to pivot between an open position and a containment position in which the arm overlaps with at least part of the tool apparatus in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the elongate region to contain the load energy within the safety apparatus.
System and method for cleaning, restoring, and protecting gas turbine engine components
A vapor-based system and method for treating one or more components of a gas turbine engine. The system includes a treatment compound contained in a storage vessel. The storage vessel being operably coupled to a delivery module. The delivery module delivering the treatment compound at one or more locations of the gas turbine engine such that the treatment compound is a vapor when exposed to an engine air-path.
Aircraft anti-icing system
An aircraft can include a turbine engine including a rotor and a stator, and also including a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine in axial flow arrangement. The aircraft can further include an anti-icing system with a magnetic field generator having a rotating portion and a non-rotating portion, as well as an array of carbon nanotubes thermally coupled to an exposed surface.
BONDING SYSTEM FOR DUAL WALLED TURBINE COMPONENTS
A system is for bonding a cover sheet to a core to form or repair a dual wall structure. The system includes a cover sheet probe and an inner pedestal probe. A three dimensional contoured tip of the cover sheet probe abuts against a three dimensional contoured outer surface of the cover sheet opposite a pedestal of the core. The pedestal abuts the inner surface of the cover sheet. The inner pedestal probe may be coupled to the core to create a conductive electrical path from the cover sheet probe through at least part of the structure. A flow of electric power is controlled and supplied to the cover sheet probe to heat a junction between the area of the cover sheet abutting the pedestal and the pedestal. A heated area is created in the junction and fixedly couples the coversheet and the pedestal.
BONDING SYSTEM FOR DUAL WALLED TURBINE COMPONENTS
