EXHAUST VALVE FAILURE DIAGNOSTICS AND MANAGEMENT
A method of operating an engine is provided. An exhaust valve actuation fault is detected for a first exhaust valve associated with a first cylinder during a first working cycle. In response to the detection of the exhaust valve actuation fault, fueling to at least the first cylinder is cut off. Actuation of the first exhaust valve is attempted in second working cycles that follow the first working cycle, wherein the second working cycles are not fueled. Whether or not the first exhaust valve actuated properly during the second working cycles is determined. Operation of the first cylinder is resumed when it is determined that the first exhaust valve actuated properly. Operation of the first cylinder is not resumed when it is determined that the first exhaust valve did not actuate properly.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A FUEL VAPOR CANISTER HEATING ELEMENT
Methods and systems are provided for diagnosing a heating element coupled to a canister of an evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system. In one example, a method (or system) may include evacuating the canister at different temperature conditions, and diagnosing the heating element based on the different times taken to evacuate the canister at the different temperature conditions.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING AN AIR CHARGE OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for operating an internal combustion engine based on a control of a supplied fresh air quantity, the method comprising the following steps: implementing an adjustment of a throttle valve for the control of the supplied fresh air quantity as a function of a setpoint mass flow via the throttle valve; determining the setpoint mass flow via the throttle valve according to a differential equation, which is a function of a control deviation ascertained as a function of a setpoint intake manifold pressure and an actual intake manifold pressure.
System and method for diagnosing a crankcase ventilation system
A method and a system for diagnosing positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) systems are disclosed. In one example, the method diagnoses a PCV system based on a pressure that may be observed during engine cranking. In another example, the PCV system is diagnosed during vehicle driving conditions after the engine exits cranking.
Internal combustion engine system and a method of operating an internal combustion system
Provided are a method and an ICE system, including an internal combustion engine including a first and a second set of cylinders. A first and a second EGR valve control flow of exhaust gas from the cylinders to an EGR conduit. A controller controls the closing of the second EGR valve, thereby preventing flow of exhaust gas from the second set of cylinders to the EGR conduit. The second EGR valve is upstream of a turbine. The controller is configured to activate a fuel injector for late post injection of fuel into the second set of cylinders when the second EGR valve is closed, so that at least a part of the fuel that exits the second set of cylinders is uncombusted. An exhaust gas aftertreatment system receives and treats exhaust gas which is not recirculated in the EGR conduit, and includes an oxidation catalyst for combustion.
Exhaust gas analyzer, and exhaust gas analysis method
An exhaust gas analyzer to analyze exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine includes an infrared light source, a photodetector, a CO.sub.2 concentration calculation part and an O.sub.2 concentration calculation part. The infrared light source irradiates infrared light to the exhaust gas. The photodetector detects infrared light after passing through the exhaust gas. The CO.sub.2 concentration calculation part calculates a CO.sub.2 concentration in the exhaust gas on the basis of a detection signal obtained by the photodetector. The O.sub.2 concentration calculation part calculates an O.sub.2 concentration in the exhaust gas from the CO.sub.2 concentration by using a fuel combustion reaction equation and an EGR rate in an exhaust gas recirculation system or a value related to the EGR rate.
Fugitive gas detection system
A fugitive gas detection system is provided. The system includes a cloud service, a plurality of reach-based components, a plurality of wireless gas sensors. The reach-based components comprise backhauls and gateways. The wireless gas sensors are acted as nodes to acquire sensor data in a local mesh network and the nodes are connected to the cloud service through the reach-based components, one node can transmit the sensor data to other sensor nodes of the local mesh network. The system measures flammable gas levels with speed, economy and accuracy.
Method and system for valve sticking detection, prevention, or correction
A method for cleaning an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve includes scheduling a cleaning for the EGR valve, and receiving a signal indicative of a temperature of exhaust gas produced with an internal combustion engine. The method may also include generating a command to actuate an intake throttle valve to a restrictive position to increase the temperature of the exhaust gas for cleaning the EGR valve, and generating a signal to repeatedly actuate the EGR valve.
CONTROLLER FOR HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE, CONTROL METHOD FOR HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE, AND MEMORY MEDIUM
A torque reducing process reduces torque of a multiphase rotating electric machine when a magnitude of current in a particular phase of the rotating electric machine remains greater than or equal to a given value. A deactivating process deactivates combustion control in a deactivated cylinder and continues combustion control in the remaining cylinders. A fluctuation torque applying process cyclically fluctuates the torque of the rotating electric machine in a cycle that is an integral multiple of a compression top dead center occurrence cycle when the deactivating process is being executed. A prohibiting process prohibits execution of the deactivating process in a predetermined situation where a rotation speed of a rotary shaft of the rotating electric machine is less than or equal to a given speed.
Method and system for operating a refueling valve
Methods and systems are presented for operating a refueling valve of an evaporative emissions system. The methods and systems may attempt to reactivate a refueling valve that has stuck due to the refueling valve being exposed to liquid fuel. In one example, a voltage that is applied to the refueling valve may be increased to reactivate the refueling valve.
