Methods and apparatus for sealing variable area fan nozzles of jet engines
Methods and apparatus for sealing variable area fan nozzles of jet engines are disclosed. An apparatus in accordance with the teachings of this disclosure includes a frame and a seal to be coupled to the frame. The seal to enclose petals of a variable area fan nozzle to substantially prevent airflow between the petals.
Propulsive force vectoring
A propulsive force imparted to an object is vectored using rotatable members arranged in one or more arrays disposed in the path of a fluid ejected by a fluid accelerator unit, such as air ejected by a fan driven by a gas turbine engine. The propulsive force is vectored by changing the rotation of one or more of the rotatable members.
Exhaust nozzle control for a gas turbine engine
An exhaust nozzle for a gas turbine engine according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a duct having a first surface and a second surface extending about a duct axis to define an exhaust flow path, and at least one effector positioned along the first surface. The at least one effector is pivotable about an effector axis to vary a throat area of the exhaust flow path. The at least one effector tapers along the effector axis. A method of exhaust control for a gas turbine engine is also disclosed.
Decoupled translating sleeve
A thrust reverser for a nacelle may include a translating sleeve. A plurality of linkless blocker doors may be coupled to the translating sleeve. The translating sleeve may translate along a line of action which is non-parallel to an engine centerline. The non-parallel translation of the translating sleeve may prevent interference between the translating sleeve and surrounding components.
THRUST VECTORING NOZZLE
A variable geometry exhaust nozzle arrangement includes a plurality of hingable exhaust petals defining a perimeter of an exhaust duct and an annular ring slidably engagable against a radially outer surface of each petal. The annular ring is coupled to a plurality of circumferentially spaced actuator arrangements, each including first and second circumferentially spaced parallel actuator arms pivotably coupled to the annular ring at a first end and to a slide arrangement at a second end. Each slide arrangement is mounted for linear sliding movement relative to the annular ring, such that sliding movement of each slide arrangement causes pivoting of the first and second actuator arms to thereby translate the annular ring in one or both of a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction.
FAN NACELLE TRAILING EDGE
A fan nacelle, a gas turbine engine cell assembly, and an aircraft are provided. The fan nacelle includes a fan duct skin arranged in a fan duct to direct airflow from the fan of a Turbofan engine toward a fan nozzle. An exterior skin of the fan nacelle directs air flow around an exterior of the engine. The fan duct skin and the exterior skin terminate at a trailing edge, and a trailing edge portion of the exterior skin is one of parallel to and diverging from a trailing edge portion of the fan duct skin in an aft direction. In certain aspects, the trailing edge portion of the exterior skin is actuatable or inflatable to selectively divert from the trailing edge portion of the fan duct skin.
Variable area nozzle and associated propulsion system and method
A nozzle including a frame having a plurality of deflecting elements arranged in an array, the array extending about a longitudinal axis, and a skin positioned over the frame.
Impingement cooled nozzle liner
A nozzle liner for a rotatable nozzle includes a seal land and a rotatable seal for moving with the nozzle. The seal has a first diffusion hole for distributing cooling air if the rotatable seal is in a first position and a second diffusion hole for distributing cooling air if the rotatable seal is in a first position and if in a second position.
Vehicle attitude control using jet paddles and/or movable mass
Attitude and/or attitude rate of a vehicle may be controlled using jet paddles and/or movable masses. Thrust direction generally may also be controlled using jet paddles. The jet paddles may be moved into and/or sufficiently close to the exhaust flow, and out of the exhaust flow, to change the thrust direction. Movable masses may also be used in addition to, or in lieu of, jet paddles. Movement of the movable masses alters a center-of-mass of the vehicle, generating torque that changes vehicle attitude.
Exhaust liner flange cooling
A liner portion has an exhaust liner portion with an inner face extending to an outward extending flange. Cooling grooves formed in the flange have a radially outward inlet point and a radially inner outlet point. A flow area at the inlet point is smaller than the flow area at the outlet point.
