Systems and methods for reducing vehicle valve degradation

Methods and systems are provided for reducing degradation and issues related to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) for a canister purge valve configured to regulate a flow of fuel vapors from a fuel vapor canister to an engine in response to a request to purge the fuel vapor canister of fuel vapors. In one example, a method may include purging the fuel vapor canister by synchronizing a timing of opening and closing events of the canister purge valve to correspond with instances where a pressure difference across the canister purge valve is lower as compared to higher in terms of pressure oscillations across the canister purge valve during the purging. In this way, higher loads and stress on the canister purge valve may be avoided, thus reducing degradation and NVH issues.

The fuel level estimating unit estimates the occupied volume of the gas by using a change in a closed system internal pressure before and after the closed fuel vapor system is subjected to pressure-reducing treatment for a predetermined interval and a reference discharging rate when the gas is subject to the pressure-reducing treatment. An abnormality diagnostic apparatus is also disclosed.

A two-stroke reciprocating piston engine. The engine principally consists of an expansion cylinder and a compression cylinder, and an expansion chamber and a combustion chamber. When pistons of the expansion cylinder and compression cylinder move from a bottom dead center to a top dead center, gas in the expansion cylinder is compressed in the expansion chamber, gas in the compression cylinder is compressed in the combustion chamber, a water spray nozzle sprays water towards the high temperature and high pressure gas in the expansion chamber, and when the water encounters the high temperature and high pressure gas, the water is rapidly vaporized. At the same time, an oil spray nozzle sprays a fuel into the combustion chamber, a spark from a spark plug ignites the combustible gas of the combustion chamber, the high temperature and high pressure gas produced by the combustion pushes open a valve of the combustion chamber.

Control device for fuel injection valve

The present invention determines whether multi-stage injection control is operating normally or abnormally, and carries out a failsafe of multi-stage injection control as necessary. The present invention, which solves the problem described above, has means such as the following. The invention is provided with fuel injection valves provided respectively to each cylinder, an opened/closed valve detection means for detecting either one or both of an open valve state and a closed valve state of the fuel injection valves on the basis of the drive currents or drive voltages of the fuel injection valves, and a detection execution determination means for determining a detection execution time period including the detection start timing and the detection end timing of the open valve state or closed valve state; detection interference such as overlapping detection with another cylinder and overlapping of open valve detection and closed valve detection being preventable, and risks such as erroneous detection being reducible.

Hydrocarbon vapor start techniques using a purge pump and hydrocarbon sensor

An evaporative emissions (EVAP) control system for a vehicle includes a purge pump configured to pump fuel vapor to an engine of the vehicle via a vapor line and a purge valve. The system includes a hydrocarbon (HC) sensor disposed in the vapor line and configured to measure an amount of HC in the fuel vapor pumped by the purge pump to the engine via the vapor line. A controller is configured to: detect an imminent cold start of the engine and, in response to the detecting, perform the cold start of the engine by controlling at least one of the purge pump and the purge valve, based on the measured amount of HC, to deliver a desired amount of fuel vapor to the engine, which decreases HC emissions by the engine.

Method of operating an internal combustion engine

A method and apparatus are disclosed for determining the fuel quantity that is actually injected by a fuel injector in an internal combustion engine. A fuel injector is operated to perform a fuel injection. The first discharge stroke of the fuel pump is deactivated following a start of the fuel injection for preventing the discharge stroke from delivering fuel into the fuel rail. A value of a pressure drop caused into the fuel rail by the fuel injection is calculated. A value of a fuel quantity injected by the fuel injection is calculated on the basis of the calculated value of the pressure drop.
