Device and method for controlling internal combustion engine
A control device for an internal combustion engine including a variable compression ratio mechanism arranged to vary a relative position relationship between a piston and a cylinder, and thereby to vary a mechanical compression ratio, and a fuel injection valve arranged to directly inject a fuel within a combustion chamber, the control device includes: at least in an engine high load region including a full open, the compression ratio at an exhaust upper dead center being controlled to a low compression ratio, a fuel injection start timing of the fuel in which an air-fuel mixture is formed within the combustion chamber, and which is ignited by an ignition plug being set before an exhaust upper dead center so that a fuel injection period crosses an upper dead center.
Dual fuel common rail engine with co-axial quill assembly
A dual fuel common rail engine supplies pressurized natural gas and liquid diesel fuel at different pressures through a co-axial quill assembly for direct injection from a single fuel injector into an engine cylinder. Pressure waves in the gaseous fuel common rail are damped in a pressure damping chamber of the co-axial quill assembly to promote consistent gaseous fuel injection rates and quantities from the fuel injector.

Method and arrangement for determining a fuel quality
In a method and an arrangement for determining a fuel quality of a fuel for a combustion engine fuel is conveyed from a low pressure fuel tank to a high-pressure volume, and injected into at least one cylinder of the combustion engine. A control valve is provided for controlling directly or indirectly the amount of fuel injected into the at least one cylinder. An actual value of a timing signal of the control valve is compared to a reference value of the timing signal of the control valve and a fuel quality parameter is derived from a difference between the actual value and the reference value of the timing signal of the control valve and/or that a fuel quality parameter is derived from a gradient of the pressure increase during a build-up phase of the pressure in the high-pressure volume compared to a reference value of the gradient of the pressure increase in the high-pressure volume.

Method of supplying fuel to engine
A method for supplying fuel to an engine is disclosed. The method may include regulating a gas admission valve disposed between a gaseous fuel line and a cylinder intake port to reduce flow of gaseous fuel to the cylinder. The method may also include closing a shut-off valve disposed between a gaseous fuel reservoir and the gaseous fuel line to restrict flow of gaseous fuel from the gaseous fuel reservoir to the gaseous fuel line. Further, the method may include actuating an inert gas inlet valve disposed between an inert gas reservoir and the gaseous fuel line to supply inert gas to the gaseous fuel line and flush the gaseous fuel in the gaseous fuel line into the cylinder via the gas admission valve. Additionally, the method may include closing the inert gas inlet valve to restrict supply of inert gas to the gaseous fuel line.
