Propeller safety for automated aerial vehicles

The disclosure describes an automated aerial vehicle (AAV) and system for automatically detecting a contact or an imminent contact between a propeller of the AAV and an object (e.g., human, pet, or other animal). When a contact or an imminent contact is detected, a safety profile may be executed to reduce or avoid any potential harm to the object and/or the AAV. For example, if a contact with a propeller of the AAV by an object is detected, the rotation of the propeller may be stopped to avoid harming the object. Likewise, an object detection component may be used to detect an object that is nearing a propeller, stop the rotation of the propeller, and/or navigate the AAV away from the detected object.

OFFSET CLUTCH MECHANISM FOR ELECTRIC STARTING AND BARRING MOTOR OF A GAS-TURBINE ENGINE

In examples, a clutch assembly includes a first clutch member disposed near a first end of a first shaft. The first clutch member defines a first surface. The first shaft includes a starter motor coupled to a second end of the first shaft. The clutch assembly includes a second clutch member disposed near a first end of a second shaft. The second clutch member defines a second surface opposing the first surface, and the second shaft includes an accessory gearbox of a gas turbine engine coupled to a second end of the second shaft. The surfaces of the first and second clutch member engage such that rotational motion is transferred between the first clutch member and the second clutch member. The first clutch member and the second clutch member are configured to passively disengage from each other and actively reengage with each other.

Automatically actuated disconnect couplings

An automatic disconnect coupling includes a retainer and a biasing member. The biasing member is coupled to the retainer and is arranged to communicate excitation from a generator input member to the retainer. The retainer and the biasing member have a fundamental frequency tuned to the rotational speed of the generator input member to automatically disconnect the input member from a drive member when rotating unbalance of the input member exceeds a predetermined level.
