Knee pillow
The knee pillow provides sufficient padding above the knee to provide leg spacing and provides padding at the knee to prevent discomforting contact between the medial epicondyle bones and to provide leg alignment for proper posture. The knee cushion is shaped to prevent discomforting displacement of the knee caps (patella).
Operating system for, and a method of, operating an article of furniture
An operating system (10) for operating an article of furniture (12), the article of furniture (12) comprising a support structure, at least one component displaceably arranged relative to the support structure and a receiver. The operating system (10) includes a (controller 34) which communicates wirelessly with the article of furniture (12), the controller (34) outputting operating signals (46) containing operating instructions. A signal processing module communicates with the wireless controller (34) via a routing arrangement (48), the signal processing module receiving the operating signals (46) and converting the operating signals into control signals to be provided to the receiver to effect displacement of the at least one component of the article of furniture (12) relative to the support structure under the control of a user.
Reconfigurable Sofa
A sofa (10) includes a sofa base (13) and an addition (14) coupled to the sofa base. The sofa base has a seating area (18) between two end armrests (19) which includes spacing for back cushions (20), seat cushions (21), and an empty seating space (22). The addition has an L-shaped addition base (24) and a U-shaped addition cushion (25). The addition base has an inside corner (28) configured to nest the front corner of the sofa base. The U-shaped addition cushion is positioned upon the L-shaped addition base and a portion of the base seating area which could be occupied by a seat seating space. Thus, the addition cushion completely covers the addition base and the empty seating space or portion of the seating area directly adjacent the armrest which is surrounded by the addition cushion on three sides.
Pad for Supporting Head while Lying on Side
A side sleeping pad has a laterally running channel for receiving an ear and eyeglass temple of a person. A person can use the pad to watch distant objects, like a television, without the pain caused by pressure on the head from eyeglass temple that is caused when sleeping with a traditional pad. The channel can include laterally receding walls to provide a wider channel laterally. The widening channel allows a sleeper to rotate his or head up and down while slide sleeping and not risk contacting the eyeglass lens with the channel wall. The pad can include a rear-sleeping section. Sleepers can roll between a side sleeping position and rear sleeping position while wearing eyeglasses, earphones, earrings, hearing aids without having to adjust or move the pad.
Adjustable surgical support system
The adjustable surgical support system includes a lower extremity support for receiving and supporting the foot and lower leg of a patient laying supine on an operating table. A ball mount extending downwardly from the lower extremity support is selectively insertable within one of a plurality of apertures arranged in a matrix and formed in an underlying base plate. The apertures are conical in nature such that the ball mount is stable to horizontal forces when placed therein. The base plate may include at least one upwardly open channel that receives a foot rest for anchoring the adjustable surgical support system to the operating table. Surgeons and other surgical personnel may adjust the position of the foot and/or lower leg during surgery by removing and selectively inserting the ball mount into any one of the other apertures in the base plate, or rotating the same within the selected aperture.
Economical Actuation Modules and Systems for Beds
The invention is directed to modules for installation in beds to adjustably support targeted body zones of a user. Modularization renders actively controlled bed technology available to a broad range of beds on the market including upgrading many users' existing beds. Bed actuation modules include one or more lift systems connected to a mechanical support which has bed mounting devices for enabling installation of the module in a broad range of bed frames. An adjustable height platform of each lift system can be raised or lowered without necessarily changing the angle of inclination thereof. Lift systems for variable support of two zones may be actuated by single actuator in a way that provides contra-acting movement of the respective mattress support surfaces. Optionally, inclusion of a sensing and inference system enables automatic control of a bed actuation module according to the inferred orientation of a user's body.
Recliner footrest extension system and method
A recliner footrest extension system includes a base-member, and an extension-member. The base-member includes a top-panel, a bottom-panel, and a side-panel in one embodiment. The top-panel, the bottom-panel, and the side-panel are structured and arranged to affix to a recliner footrest by sliding upon the recliner footrest and held upon the footrest by friction. The extension-member is affixed to the base-member by a hinge, with the extension member arranged to support at least one foot of a user when the recliner footrest extension system is in an extended condition.
Therapeutic cushion systems and methods
Apparatus and methods for providing therapeutic treatment for symptoms associated with GERD and/or other digestive disorders and/or other medical conditions are described herein. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a support element that has a first end portion and a second end portion and a top surface disposed at an angle relative to a bottom surface of the support element. The second end portion has a height greater than the first end portion. A riser element is configured to be coupled proximate to the second end portion of the support element. A body element is configured to be disposed on at least one of the support element or the riser element. The body element has a first arm and a second arm connected together by an arc portion.
