Implantable apparatus for retention of biological moieties

An implantable containment apparatus for receiving and retaining a biological moiety or a therapeutic device within a tissue bed is disclosed. The device includes a shaping element to maintain the device in a generally toroidal configuration and to return the apparatus to that configuration after deformation. The apparatus can be placed in a host tissue with minimal trauma to the patient. Methods for implanting and using the apparatus are also disclosed.

Various embodiments of prostheses are provided including a plurality of radially expandable discs that can be filled with material to facilitate coagulation and to reduce or stop leakage from punctures in vessel walls.

The device retention mechanism includes a tray, a base coupled to the tray, and retaining flanges pivotally coupled to the base. The delivery system is enclosed within an opening defined by the base and retaining flanges. A key locks the device retention mechanism in the closed position retaining the delivery system. The key must be removed to unlock the device retention mechanism to release the delivery system.

A density gradient biopolymeric matrix implant is disclosed. The implant includes a first homogeneous matrix layer and a second homogeneous matrix layer having a density different from that of the first homogeneous matrix layer. Biopolymeric fibers at the surface of the first homogeneous matrix layer are physically in contact with and cross-linked to the biopolymeric fibers at the surface of the second homogeneous matrix layer. Also disclosed is a three-dimensional density gradient biopolymeric matrix implant that includes a first homogeneous matrix surrounding a second homogeneous matrix having a different density. Biopolymeric fibers at an inner surface of the first homogeneous matrix are physically in contact with and cross-linked to biopolymeric fibers at an outer surface of the second homogeneous matrix. Furthermore, methods for preparing the density gradient biopolymeric matrix implant and the three-dimensional density gradient biopolymeric matrix implant are provided.

A spinal implant package includes a tray having a body including spaced apart first and second cavities. The body includes a third cavity between the first and second cavities. The tray includes a first connecting feature that is movable relative to the body. A lid is coupled to the tray by a hinge. The lid includes a second connecting feature that is movable between a first position in which a bottom surface of the second connecting feature directly engages a top surface of the first connecting feature and a second position in which a top surface of the second connecting feature directly engages a bottom surface of the first connecting feature to provisionally fix the lid to the tray.

The present disclosure in one aspect provides a sterile packaging container comprising a container body with a cross-sectional shape that is constant along the majority of the longitudinal axis, a cover and a closure assembly that inhibits the passage of microbial contaminants. The container is configured such that the interior of the container can be sterilized. The sterile packaging container described herein allows one to manufacture a sterile packaging tube exercising the smallest possible volume.

SAMPLE CONTAINER WITH PEELABLE SEAL AND ACCESS PORT

An apparatus includes a flexible container and a port. The container includes a first layer coupled to a second layer to define a storage volume within which a tissue specimen can be contained. The first layer has a first stiffness and the second layer has a second stiffness. An edge of the first layer is spaced apart from an edge of the second layer to define an opening into the storage volume. The edges of the first and second layer form a peelable seal that hermetically seals the storage volume such that the first layer can be peeled away from the second layer to expose the storage volume. The port is coupled to the flexible container and allows fluid communication between the storage volume and an external volume.

IMPLANTABLE PROSTHESIS FOR SOFT TISSUE REPAIR

An implantable prosthesis for repairing or augmenting anatomical defects, including an inguinal hernia. The prosthesis may include a repair fabric having a body portion and a pocket on one side of the body portion to facilitate deployment and/or placement of the prosthesis at the defect site. For some applications, such as a reversible prosthesis, a second pocket may be provided on the opposite side of the body portion. Each pocket may be configured to receive a sufficient length of one or more fingers of an individual for deploying and/or positioning the prosthesis. A support member may be provided to help deploy the repair fabric at the surgical site and/or help inhibit folding or buckling of the repair fabric.

APPLICATOR INSTRUMENTS HAVING STACKED SURGICAL FASTENERS FOR OFF-AXIS SURGICAL FASTENER DELIVERY

An applicator instrument for dispensing surgical fasteners includes a housing, and an elongated shaft extending from the housing. The elongated shaft has a proximal end secured to the housing, a distal end spaced from the proximal end, and a first axis extending between the proximal and distal ends of the elongated shaft. Surgical fasteners are disposed in the elongated shaft. The surgical fasteners are stacked at an angle relative to the first axis of the elongated shaft. A distal end cap having a surgical fastener dispensing window is secured to the distal end of the elongated shaft. The applicator instrument has a firing system disposed in the housing, and an actuator coupled with the firing system for activating the firing system to dispense the surgical fasteners through the surgical fastener dispensing window.

A size adjustable cover used for soft tissue reinforcement which is adapted to envelop an implantable device, such as a breast implant, in a surgical application. The cover is formed using a circular two-dimensional implantable matrix material having an inner circle and a plurality of fringes which radiate circumferentially from the inner circle. The implantable device is positioned upon the inner circle, and the plurality of fringes are folded inwardly to form an overlapping implant pocket which envelops the implantable device. Each fringe further has a punched opening, allowing a loop of suture thread to link each fringe together. Certain fringes are excluded from the loop to create stabilization tabs which radiate from the inner circle and are attached to a site of host implantation to stabilize the cover and the implantable device within.
