The application discloses a method for adjusting a wide viewing angle, including: obtaining gray scale values of two pixels located in a same column and two adjacent rows; obtaining a view angle value of a wide view angle, and determining a target difference value according to the view angle value; and reducing a gray scale value of one of the two pixels and/or increasing a gray scale value of another one of the two pixels according to the target difference value, to perform wide view angle adjustment of a picture to be displayed, wherein a difference value between the gray scale values of the two pixels after the wide view angle adjustment is greater than or equal to the target difference value. The method employs a computer interconnected with a GPS transceiver and a distance measurement means and operatively interconnected with a digital camera, all provided on a moving vehicle, in order to acquire a plurality of geographic location related images. A first geographic position is obtained from the GPS transceiver and a plurality of distance measurements are then received before a second geographic position is taken. A photo request is generated after a pre-determined distance has been traveled and is transmitted to the digital camera. The camera takes a photo based on the request and the photos, photo requests, first and second positions and distance measurements are stored for post-processing. The post-processing determines a path traveled by the vehicle using the positions and distance measurements and assigns an accurate geographic location and orientation to each photo. The method is useful in building a database of geographically related images.

A characteristic point extraction unit extracts a characteristic point in an overlapping region of a plurality of component images picked up using a camera built in portable equipment and having pan angles or elevation angles different from each other. A self-position estimation unit estimates three-dimensional coordinate values of the characteristic point and three-dimensional coordinate values of a camera position, which are associated with each other, at the same time in two component images in which the camera positions are displaced from each other. A panoramic image generation unit adjusts, based on the estimated three-dimensional coordinate values of the camera position, the three-dimensional coordinate values of the characteristic point of the component image to correct the component image and combine a plurality of component images having pan angles or elevation angles different from each other to generate a synthesis image.
