Multi-channel audio upmixer

An audio processor may receive audio input channels including stereo channels and one or more surround channels. The audio processor may downmix the audio input channels into stereo output channels; developing the stereo output channels into upmixed audio channels including at least one additional surround channel not present in the audio input channels; delay the audio input channels into delayed audio channels that are time-aligned with the upmixed audio channels; and mix the delayed audio channels and the upmixed audio channels into audio output channels.

An example game device includes a virtual camera, a localization calculation microphone, and a volume calculation microphone in a virtual space. The localization calculation microphone is provided at the location of the virtual camera, and the volume calculation microphone is located away from the virtual camera. The game device calculates a left-right position and a front-back position of a sound source as viewed from the localization calculation microphone. The game device also calculates the volume of a sound based on a distance between the volume calculation microphone and the sound source. The game device outputs the sound based on the calculated localized position and volume.

Switching between predictive and non-predictive quantization techniques in a higher order ambisonics (HOA) framework

A device comprising a memory and one or more processors may be configured extract, from the bitstream, a type of quantization mode. The one or more processors may also be configured to switch, based on the type of quantization mode, between non-predictive vector dequantization to reconstruct a first set of one or more weights used to approximate the multi-directional V-Vector in the higher order ambisonics domain, and predictive vector dequantization to reconstruct a second set of one or more weights used to approximate the multi-directional V-Vector in the higher order ambisonics domain. The memory may be configured to store the reconstructed first set of one or more weights used to approximate the multi-directional V-Vector in the higher order ambisonics domain, and the reconstructed second set of one or more weights used to approximate the multi-directional V-Vector in the higher order ambisonics domain.

Voice audio rendering augmentation

An audio rendering device enhances voice audio such that audible voice is not overwhelmed by other aspects of the soundtrack. The device attenuates right and left channels in an audio stream in response to a detected voice component in the audio stream, and boosts the voice component in the audio stream based on the level of attenuation of the right and left channels. Voice components are distinguished from the non-voice components by separating center channel and mono information from the left, right and surround channels. Non-voice components are attenuated down towards a non-voice threshold level based on an attenuation ratio. Voice components are boosted up toward a voice threshold level, so that the spoken voice is more audible to viewers and not overwhelmed or drowned out by the non-voice aspects of the soundtrack.

Apparatus and method for center signal scaling and stereophonic enhancement based on a signal-to-downmix ratio

An apparatus for generating a modified audio signal having two or more modified audio channels from an audio input signal comprising two or more audio input channels is provided. The apparatus has an information generator for generating signal-to-downmix information. The information generator is adapted to generate signal information by combining a spectral value of each of the two or more audio input channels in a first way. The information generator is adapted to generate downmix information by combining the spectral value of each of the two or more audio input channels in a second way being different from the first way. Furthermore, the information generator is adapted to combine the signal information and the downmix information to obtain signal-to-downmix information. The apparatus has a signal attenuator for attenuating the two or more audio input channels depending on the signal-to-downmix information to obtain the two or more modified audio channels.

Apparatus, method and computer program for upmixing a downmix audio signal using a phase value smoothing

An apparatus for upmixing a downmix audio signal describing one or more downmix audio channels into an upmixed audio signal describing a plurality of upmixed audio channels includes an upmixer and a parameter determinator. The upmixer is configured to apply temporally variable upmix parameters to upmix the downmix audio signal in order to obtain the upmixed audio signal, wherein the temporally variable upmix parameters include temporally variable smoothened phase values. The parameter determinator is configured to obtain one or more temporally smoothened upmix parameters for usage by the upmixer on the basis of a quantized upmix parameter input information. The parameter determinator is configured to combine a scaled version of a previous smoothened phase value with a scaled version of an input phase information using a phase change limitation algorithm, to determine a current smoothened phase value on the basis of the previous smoothened phase value and the phase input information.
