An apparatus and method for accelerator beam line isolation from targets and solid target irradiation chamber in the production of medical radioisotopes by the irradiation of solid targets is provided. The isolation consists of a single, thin material window placed in front of the target in such as way as not to be subjected to any pressure differences when the target irradiation chamber is evacuated or vented and not requiring window surface cooling, relaying only on the heat removal by conduction.

Method for producing Ac-225 from Ra-226

The embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method for producing Ac-225 from Ra-226, comprising submitting Ra-226 to a photo-nuclear process, collecting an electrochemical precipitation of an Ac-225 on a cathode in a recipient, removing the cathode from the recipient after the electrochemical precipitation of the Ac-225, transferring the cathode to a hot cell environment, and extracting the Ac-225 from the cathode in the hot cell environment. The Ra-226 may comprise a liquid solution in the recipient, and submitting Ra-226 to the photo-nuclear process may comprise irradiating the Ra-226 to produce Ra-225. The Ra-225 may decay into Ac-225 upon irradiation of the Ra-226.

Neutron beam generating device

A neutron beam generating device includes a supporting base, an outer shell, a target material, and a first pipe. The outer shell surrounds a rotating axis, rotatable engages the supporting base, and has a first opening. The target material is disposed in the outer shell. The first pipe extends from the first opening of the outer shell along the rotating axis to the target material. The first pipe is configured to transmit an ion beam to bombard the target material to generate a neutron beam.

Provided herein are systems, devices, articles of manufacture, and methods for generating neutrons employing a high energy ion beam target (HEIB target) and a target backing configured to be in contact with the bottom surface of the HEIB target (e.g., to generate an ion beam target assembly). In certain embodiments, the HEIB target has a thickness that is less than the penetration depth of protons or deuterons in the high energy ion beam that strikes the target. In certain embodiments, the target backing comprises a high hydrogen diffusion metal (e.g., palladium), has open spaces dispersed throughout for reduced proton diffusion distances, and has a shape and thickness such that all, or virtually all, of the protons or deuterons that pass through the HEIB target are stopped. Also provided herein are systems, devices, and methods for changing targets in an ion beam accelerator system.
