A shielding cup is provided for use with a self-fusing member or collapsible heat-concentrating accessory. The shielding cup is attached to a shoe heel as a temporary fix for a worn heel tip. The cup can be attached to the heel by a self-fusing member that binds to itself. The cup can also be attached by using a heat source and collapsible heat-concentrating accessory to concentrate heat on the heat-shrink version of the shielding cup. The cup can also be press fit on to the heel tip without the use of a self-fusing member or collapsible heat-concentrating accessory. Embodiments of the cup that can be press fit on to the heel tip include a rigid portion adjacent the base of the cup that engages the heel tip and a flexible portion extending away from the base of the cup. The flexible portion can be achieved by tapering the sidewalls of the cup along a longitudinal axis of the cup. Some embodiments of the cup that can be press fit on to the heel tip include a widened base having an outer periphery that is larger than an inner periphery.

An apparatus is provided that includes a sole cover. The sole cover is configured to be removably attached to a sole of a shoe to cover the sole of the shoe. The sole cover includes a first covering section and a second covering section, where the first covering section is configured to cover the sole of the shoe at a toe box portion of the shoe. The second covering section is configured to cover the sole of the shoe at a waist portion of the shoe. The first covering section angles upwardly and away from the second covering section at an angle relative to the second covering section at an angle relative to the second covering section when the second covering section lies flat on a horizontal plane in an undeformed state. The sole cover is of a sufficient elasticity that enables the first covering section to bend downwardly when the sole cover is attached to the sole of the shoe. The angle and elasticity are of sufficient values to urge the sole cover against a bottom of the sole of the shoe to help secure the sole cover to the sole of the shoe when the sole cover is attached to the sole of the shoe.

Shoe, a patch and a method for preventing ankle injuries

A shoe for preventing ankle injuries comprises a sole with a ground-engaging surface, and lateral and medial edges associated with respective lateral and medial connecting portions interconnecting and extending between the ground-engaging surface and the lateral and medial edges. At least one of the connecting portions defines a surface area of reduced friction provided, e.g., in the form of retrofitted patches, which are circumferentially surrounded by adjacent surface areas having a relatively high coefficient of friction. Friction is differentiated in different areas of those parts of the shoe which are implicated in injury mechanisms, and injuries may thus be prevented in the recovery phase after injury, and primary prophylaxis may be achieved. The area of reduced friction reduces the ability of the wearer's foot to rotate relative to ground when the load of the wearer's body is shifted towards or lands near the edge of the shoe.
