Provided is a sheet molding compound having excellent thick portion-molding properties that can inhibit the occurrence of internal cracks even during the molding of a thick portion and enables a carbon fiber composite material molded article to be excellently released from a die. Also provided is a carbon fiber composite material molded article. The sheet molding compound of the present invention contains a fiber substrate (A) containing carbon fiber and a thermosetting resin composition (B), in which an average fiber length of the carbon fiber is 5 mm or more, and a volumetric molding shrinkage rate of the thermosetting resin composition (B) is 0.5% or more and 4.4% or less. Furthermore, the carbon fiber composite material molded article of the present invention has a thick portion having a thickness of 10 mm or more, in which the thick portion is formed of a cured material of the sheet molding compound of the present invention.

A microfluidic chip includes a flow passage plate, a flat plate, and an annular seal. In the flow passage plate, a recess forming a flow passage for liquid and a communication hole communicating with the recess are formed. The flat plate is stacked on or under the flow passage plate to close the recess for defining the flow passage. In the flat plate, a communication through-hole communicating with the recess is formed. The annular seal is located on, or formed on, an outer surface of at least one of the flow passage plate and the flat plate, the annular seal surrounding at least one of the communication hole and the communication through-hole. The annular seal is made of an elastomer.

A fill packaging machine includes a vertical sealing means for folding a packaging film at its central part and continuously forming a vertical sealed portion at its side edge part to shape into a cylinder, and a lateral sealing means for forming lateral sealed portions in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the packaging film. An easy separable sealed portion is continuously formed in the side edge part of the packaging film by the first vertical sealed portion forming section, and a vertical sealed portion having a partial non-sealed portion of a bottle mouth type is formed on the easy separable sealed portion by the second vertical sealed portion forming section. The first vertical sealed portion forming section is a pair of heat sealing rolls or heat sealing plates, a surface of at least one of which is made from an elastic material softer than a metal.

EPOXY MOLD MAKING AND MICROMILLING FOR MICROFLUIDICS
A method for efficiently manufacturing and fabricating microfluidic chips, where a base mold is formed to have positive-relief features used to cast an intermediary template chip with negative-relief features having dimensions of a scale in the micron range. The intermediary template chip is used to case a production mold, which is formed of a reinforced epoxy resin that, once hardened into a solid epoxy member, can withstand the structural pressures of a CNC machining system. The production mold can be refined by a CNC machining, where the refined production mold is then used to cast production chips to be used as microfluidic chips.
Methods and formulations for durable superhydrophic, self-cleaning, and superhydrophobic polymer coatings and objects having coatings thereon
An object has a durable superhydrophic, self-cleaning, and icephobic coating includes a substrate and a layer disposed on the substrate, the layer resulting from coating with a formulation having an effective amount of hierarchical structuring micro/nanoparticles, liquid silane having one or more groups configured to graft to a hierarchical structuring micro/nanoparticle and at least another group that results in hydrophobicity. The hierarchical structuring micro/nanoparticles are dispersed in the liquid silane. Another effective amount of synthetic adhesive, selected from thermosetting binders, moisture curing adhesives or polymers that form a strong interaction with a surface, is in solution with a solvent. Upon curing, the layer has a contact angle greater than 90° and a sliding angle of less than 10° and, less than 5% of an area of the layer is removed in a Tape test.
Methods for manufacturing carbon fiber and for manufacturing carbon fiber reinforced resin composition
A method for manufacturing a carbon fiber is provided which involves: (1) immersing a carbon fiber composite material (CFC) in an acidic aqueous solution to elute at least a part of a resin component of the CFC, to thereby obtain a substantially fibrous product; and (2) immersing the substantially fibrous product obtained in step (1) in an alkaline aqueous solution to elute at least a part of a resin component of the substantially fibrous product, to thereby obtain a fibrous product. A method for manufacturing a carbon fiber reinforced resin composition is provided which involves manufacturing a carbon fiber by the above method and manufacturing a carbon fiber reinforced resin composition using the resulting carbon fiber. Using these methods, it is possible to recover and recycle a carbon fiber from a carbon fiber composite material (CFC) at a low cost without deteriorating the carbon fiber.
