Article containing conductive fibers

An article includes a body, which includes a thermoplastic or thermoset material and a plurality of metallic fibers distributed throughout the thermoplastic or thermoset material and has a first subset of the plurality of metallic fibers extending onto a first surface of the body. The manufactured article includes a metallic coating metallically bonded to the first subset of the plurality of metallic fibers. The metal fibers extending onto the first surface are configured to bond with the metallic coating.

Metal plated additively manufactured plastic rotors and their method of manufacturing

A rotor for use in a turbomachine includes a hub centered on a central axis and having a disk portion and a shaft portion and a blade extending outward from the hub. The hub and the blade together include a plastic substrate and metal plating disposed on at least apportion of an outer surface of the plastic substrate. The plastic substrate has a matrix material and fibers embedded in the matrix material. The fibers have a first coefficient of thermal expansion. The metal plating has a second coefficient of thermal expansion. The fibers are selected such that a bulk coefficient of thermal expansion of the plastic substrate at the outer surface of the plastic substrate substantially matches the second coefficient of thermal expansion of the metal plating.

Metal plated additively manufactured plastic rotor shrouds and their method of manufacturing

In one aspect, a rotor shroud for a rotary machine includes a disk portion extending along and oriented about a central axis of the rotary machine, a transition portion extending from the disk portion, and a flared portion extending axially from the transition portion. The disk portion, the transition portion, and the flared portion include a plastic substrate and metal plating disposed on at least apportion of an outer surface of the plastic substrate.

Method for producing a test specimen

The invention relates to a method for producing a test body (30) for mechanically destructively testing a materially bonded joining connection, wherein the method comprises the following steps: providing an areal fiber composite substrate formed from a fiber composite material which has a fiber material and matrix material in which the fiber material is embedded, applying at least one test fabric and an adhesive to a substrate surface of the areal fiber composite substrate, and curing the adhesive, and therefore a materially bonded joining connection is produced between the test fabric and the substrate surface by way of the cured adhesive,
wherein a Dutch-weave fabric and/or a square-mesh fabric is provided as the test fabric.
