BRAKING SYSTEM FOR CARRYING OUT ADDITIONAL SAFE BRAKING FUNCTIONS
Braking system for carrying out additional safe braking functions
Various embodiments of a braking system (500) for at least one bogie or railway vehicle comprising an emergency braking control unit (503) made according to a first safety integrity level and a service braking control unit (508) made according to a second safety integrity level lower than said first safety integrity level are described; the braking system (500) carrying out at least one additional braking function (550) at the same safety integrity level as the emergency braking control unit (503).
A BRAKING SYSTEM AND A BRAKE ACTIVATION UNIT
The present invention provides a braking system (11) for braking a train. The system comprises an electronically controlled pneumatic brake network (ECP) and a brake activation unit (14). The brake activation unit provides status reports regarding the condition of the ECP and comprises at least one sensor for monitoring one or more properties of the ECP, and at least one venting means adapted to vent the pressure from a brake pipe (21). The system also comprises a telecommunication network (15, 17, 19) adapted to communicate with the brake activation unit. The brake activation unit can be activated using the telecommunication network to vent the pressure from the brake pipe, causing the train to brake.
Systems and methods for controlled traversal of phase breaks
A system includes a phase break input unit, one or more vehicle location detectors, and one or more processors. The phase break input unit is configured to obtain phase break location information indicating a location of a phase break along a route to be traversed by a vehicle. The one or more vehicle location detectors are configured to obtain vehicle location information indicating at least one of location of the vehicle or movement of the vehicle. The one or more processors are configured to determine an estimated arrival time of the vehicle at the phase break using the phase brake location information and the vehicle location information, and send a phase break control signal to a control system of the vehicle responsive to the estimated arrival time satisfying a threshold.
Vehicle brake system
Disclosed is a brake system for a railroad vehicle, including a parking brake provided with a piston and having a first configuration in which the piston is in a working position in which it acts on a lining support and applies a predetermined force to a brake disc; a second configuration in which the piston is in a rest position in which it does not act on the support and does not apply any force to the disc; and a third configuration in which, when the vehicle is not at a standstill and the ambient temperature in the environment of the disc is greater than a threshold value, it forces the piston to move towards a trip position different from its working and rest positions, in order to limit or cancel the force applied to the disc.
SYSTEM FOR THE GENERATION OF COMPRESSED AIR AND FOR AIR CONDITIONING, FOR A RAILWAY VEHICLE
A system is described comprising a first compressor for generating compressed air to feed a main tank and a main brake pipe of the railway vehicle through an air drying unit and a second compressor for compressing a refrigerant gas for an air conditioning system. The system comprises a single electric motor for generating a mechanical torque to be selectively supplied to the first compressor, or to the second compressor, or simultaneously to the first and second compressors, as a function of a) a first electrical signal generated by a pressure measurement device and indicative of a pressure present in the main brake pipe, or in the main tank, and b) at least a second electrical signal coming from the air conditioning system and indicative of a temperature or pressure or humidity value, and at least a third electrical signal indicative of a temperature of an environment.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETECTING BRAKE SYSTEM ANOMALIES
A method may include detecting a first pressure and a second pressure of a fluid in a brake pipe of a vehicle system that includes a plurality of vehicles and extends from a lead vehicle to an end vehicle. The first pressure may be measured in the lead vehicle and the second pressure may be measured in the end vehicle. The method may further include determining a pressure differential signature between the first pressure and the second pressure and evaluating the pressure differential signature with a machine learning model to determine whether a blockage or a leak exists in the brake pipe. A system may include one or more processors configured to detect a first pressure and a second pressure of a fluid in a brake pipe. The one or more processors may be further configured to determine a pressure differential signature between the first pressure and the second pressure and evaluate the pressure differential signature with a machine learning model to determine whether a blockage exists in the brake pipe.
BRAKE MONITORING SYSTEMS FOR RAILCARS
A system and method for detecting the operational status of a brake system on a railcar. The system receives from a sensor an indication of the magnitude of a braking force applied by the braking system in response to an instruction to increase or decrease the braking force. It compares the response to possible responses of the braking system in view of the instruction provided. Based on the comparison, the system generates at least one of a message and/or an alert indicating the status of the brake system. Additional sensors, including a pressure sensor on a brake pipe of the railcar, can be added for additional functionality.
VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method includes applying a brake system of a multi-vehicle system using an onboard controller device and receiving grade input at the onboard controller device from a remote controller device. The grade input indicates a grade of a surface on which the multi-vehicle system is disposed. The method further includes starting movement responsive to receiving a speed command signal at the onboard controller device from the remote controller device. The movement started by initiating release of the brake system and/or generating tractive effort from a propulsion system of the multi-vehicle system stretches the multi-vehicle system. The method further includes, responsive to the movement reaching a designated speed, switching to a closed loop control process of controlling the movement based on one or more of the speed command signal or a brake command signal received at the onboard controller device from the remote controller device.
