Glass/quartz composite surface

A glass/quartz composite structure comprises quartz grit, quartz powder and glass grit wherein the glass grit is in an amount greater than any other single material by weight of the composite structure (e.g. a combined weight of the quartz grit, quartz powder, glass grit, resin, and coupling agent). Natural stone components, which may include the quartz grit and quartz powder, may be in an amount greater than 30% by weight of the composite structure. The structure may be formed into a 1.2-1.5 cm thick slab for countertops using standard cabinet perimeter support. The slab may be made by mixing the quartz grit, quartz powder, glass grit, and binding resin, pouring the mixture in a mold, and compacting the mixture in the mold. Specific natural mineral components, decorative chips, and/or wet mixture pieces may be added to the composite structure to provide aesthetics of specific natural stones.

The invention discloses high-strength glass-ceramic-based lightweight aggregates and the preparation method thereof. The mass ratio of raw material components is 50-70 parts of engineering muck, 20-40 parts of glass, 3-7 parts of calcium carbonate, 3-7 parts of magnesium oxide, and 2-10 parts of a nucleating agent; the nucleating agent is at least one of calcium fluoride, titanium dioxide, and chromium oxide. After crushing, mixing, and granulating, spherical particles with a particle size of 10-12 mm are formed; and then the product can be obtained after drying, sintering, and cooling. The obtained lightweight aggregate from the invention has a diopside matrix which provides high strength and a low water absorption rate at low densities. Moreover, waste glass and engineering muck could be utilized with high value.

A method of producing a glass briquette in which reclaimed glass fines are mixed with a binder material to create a mixture. The mixture is subsequently compressed in a chamber to form a briquette having the shape of the interior of the chamber. The reclaimed glass includes glass fines of a size of smaller than 10 mm. The method is performed without melting the glass fines such that the resulting briquette contains the discrete glass fines held in the binder and may be used as a furnace ingredient for later glass product production. The glass briquette may contain other batch ingredients required in the production of glass.

Selective chemical fining of small bubbles in glass

A method of fining glass is disclosed that includes flowing a molten glass bath through a fining chamber. The molten glass bath has an undercurrent that flows beneath a skimmer that is partially submerged in the molten glass bath. One or more fining agents are introduced into the undercurrent of the molten glass bath directly beneath the skimmer from a carrier gas. In this way, the fining agent(s) may selectively target the gas bubbles drawn under the skimmer within the undercurrent of the molten glass for removal. The method may be employed to fine molten gas produced in a submerged combustion melter. A fining vessel for fining molten glass is also disclosed.
