The quinacridone pigment thus produced has the polysiloxane grouping bonded to one of the quinacridone nitrogen atoms via a hydrocarbon linking group, which bears a hydroxyl group on a carbon atom α or β to the quinacridone nitrogen atom. These quinacridone pigments are useful in electrophoretic displays.

A surfactant is added to a solvent that is capable of partially dissolving organic material microparticles, and then the organic material microparticles are reacted with the solvent. In this manner, it becomes possible to improve the degree of crystallization of the organic material microparticles or achieve the crystal transformation of the organic material microparticles without substantially altering the particle diameters of the organic material microparticles.

Embodiments of the multi-chromophore dyes include two or more dyes each comprising a water solubilizing group, two or more polymeric spacer domains and a linking moiety. Such multi-chromophore dyes can have advantageously high brightness by including multiple dyes while also reducing the rate of self-quenching. Also provided are methods of using such dyes, as well as kits that includes such dyes.
