A rupture disk includes a body including an internal wall extending from a first end of the body to a second end of the body. The internal wall defines an opening extending through the body. In some embodiments, the body further includes an internal flange formed on the internal wall, and the internal flange has a stepped surface. A rupture membrane is positioned within the body, and secured, for example, by cold welding. The rupture membrane may be secured to the stepped surface. The rupture membrane is positioned within the body such that the rupture membrane does not extend beyond the first end of the body. A process system including the rupture disk is also provided. A method of maintaining a process system that includes the rupture disk is also provided.

Disclosed herein is an instrument suitable for processing cells for example culturing, concentrating or washing said cells, the instrument comprising: a housing for accommodating mechanical elements including at least one fluid pump; and a disposable processing kit complementary to the mechanical elements within the housing and comprising a fluid circuit including a fluid reservoir and plural fluid paths capable of carrying fluid flow caused by said pump(s), the instrument further including a mechanism for determining the quantity, or change in quantity of the fluid in the reservoir resulting from said fluid flow, the instrument yet further comprising a controller operable to control at least the pump and operable to perform a fault determination process, which includes the steps of determining the expected flow rate of said pump(s) calculated from the speed of the pump(s) and comparing that expected flow with the change in quantity of the fluid in the reservoir as determined by said mechanism.

Stirred tank reactor systems and methods of use

A reactor system includes a support housing having an interior surface bounding a chamber, the chamber having a vertically extending central longitudinal axis. A flexible bag is disposed within the chamber of the support housing and has an interior surface bounding a compartment. A mixing element is disposed within the compartment of the flexible bag. A drive element, such as a drive shaft, is secured the mixing element, wherein the mixing element is laterally offset from and/or is angled relative to the vertically extending central longitudinal axis of the support housing.

Sterile sensor insertion

The present invention provides a system for the insertion of a pre-sterilized sensor probe into a sterile vessel. The system of the invention provides a reliable and straightforward way to insert one or more sterile probes into a sterile vessel. The present invention also provides a sterile vessel that includes one or more of the systems of the invention. The sterile vessel can be a flexible or semi-rigid bag or tubing of the type typically used for carrying out biochemical and/or biological processes and/or manipulating liquids and other products of such processes. Furthermore, the present invention provides a method for aseptically inserting a probe into a sterile vessel where the method makes use of the system of the invention.

Well inserts with brittle membranes

Disclosed is a well insert for cell culture, including: a membrane support having an upper end and a lower end, the upper end being adapted to engage a well of a microplate so as to suspend the well insert therein; and a permeable membrane for supporting a tissue culture, the permeable membrane being attached at the lower end of the membrane support and sealed thereto, the permeable membrane being of brittle material. The membrane support is overmolded or fastened on to the permeable membrane so as be sealed thereto.

The bioreactor sensing system also comprises a sensing device disposed at least partially within the port such that a sensing element is exposed to the contents. The bioreactor sensing system also comprises an external seal configured to be applied over a portion of the sensing device and a portion of the port.
