Polyhedral metal nanocages with well-defined facets and ultrathin walls and methods of making and uses thereof
A variety of polyhedral nanocages are provided having a hollow interior, ultrathin walls, and well-defined facets of metal atoms. The nanocages can include a variety of precious metals such as Pt, Au, Ru, Rh, or Ir. The metal atoms can take a face-centered cubic structure with {111} facets on the surface. The walls can be thin, sometimes less than 1 nm in thickness or only a few atomic layers in thickness. The nanocages can provide for efficient uses of valuable precious metals, among other things, in catalysis. For example, catalysts are provided exhibiting high mass activities in oxygen reduction reactions. Methods of making and methods of using the nanocages and catalysts are also provided.

METHOD FOR NANOPARTICLE PURIFICATION
A method for purifying nanoparticles by which a large amount of nanoparticles can be obtained in a safe manner and in a short time as compared to a conventional method for purifying nanoparticles. A method for purifying nanoparticles by which nanoparticles are purified from a dispersion liquid in which nanoparticles are dispersed in a solvent A used in synthesis of the nanoparticles, the method including: a mixing step of mixing the dispersion liquid, a solvent B that is miscible with the solvent A, and a solvent C that forms two phases together with the solvent B; a concentrating step of concentrating the nanoparticles in a phase of the solvent C; a washing step of forming a third phase containing the nanoparticles in the phase of the solvent C; and a purifying step of extracting the third phase and removing the solvent C from the third phase.
JOINING TWO COMPONENTS OF A FIELD DEVICE FOR PROCESSING AND AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY
A field device for processing and automation technology includes a first and a second component that can each be mechanically connected at a joining surface by means of a joining point. Two metal surface layers are each applied at least to the joining surface of the first component and the joining surface of the second component. The metal of the surface layers is different from the metal of the first and/or the metal of the second component. A joining material is applied between the respective joining surfaces of the two components, wherein the joining material includes particles at least partially consisting of a metal that corresponds with the metal of the surface layers The joining of the two components occurs at a joining temperature below 300° C.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PRECIOUS METAL ALLOYS AND PRECIOUS METAL ALLOYS THUS OBTAINED
A method for manufacturing a part by alloying a precious metal with boron, wherein: a quantity of precious metal reduced to powder form is provided; a quantity of a nano-structured micrometric boron powder is provided; the precious metal powder is mixed with the nano-structured micrometric boron powder to obtain a mixture; the mixture is compacted by applying a uniaxial pressure; the mixture is subjected to a spark plasma sintering or flash sintering treatment, or to a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) treatment, to obtain an ingot of a precious metal/boron alloy, and the ingot is machined to obtain the part, or the ingot is reduced to powder form by a micronisation treatment and the powder is treated to obtain the part. Additionally, a gold/boron alloy.
