TRAFFIC MONITORING USING OPTICAL SENSORS
A system includes a sensor network comprising at least two optical fibers coupled to a pavement. Each optical fiber includes one or more optical sensors installed a predetermined distance from one or more adjacent optical fibers. The one or more optical sensors are configured to produce a wavelength shift signal. A processor is configured to determine one or both of one or more attributes of one or more objects travelling on the pavement and a traffic condition of the pavement based on the wavelength shift signal. A transmitter is configured to transmit the one or more attributes to a predetermined location.

TRAFFIC MONITORING USING OPTICAL SENSORS
A sensor network comprises at least one lateral optical fiber and at least one longitudinal optical fiber. The lateral fiber comprises optical sensors coupled to a pavement in a transverse orientation relative to a direction of vehicle travel along the pavement. The longitudinal fiber comprises optical sensors coupled to the pavement in a longitudinal orientation relative to the direction of vehicle travel. The optical sensors are configured to produce wavelength shift signals comprising one or more lateral strain signals associated with the lateral fiber and one or more tangential strain signals associated with the longitudinal fiber. A processor is operatively coupled to the sensor network and configured to determine a weight of vehicles moving along the pavement based on the lateral and tangential strain signals. A transmitter is operatively coupled to the processor and configured to transmit the weight of vehicles to a predetermined location.
Electrical power generating apparatus
An electrical power generating apparatus for generating electrical power using a generator connected directly or indirectly to a flywheel is disclosed. The apparatus comprises items such as platforms, protrusions, generators, flywheels and other components. The platforms are configured to be laid on a surface and easily allow an object, e.g., a vehicle to traverse over the platforms. Each protrusion is configured to move downward and upward through apertures located in a top portion of the platform. The protrusions may interact with reset members. The protrusions move in a linear/angle downward/downward-upward motion when the object pushes/strikes/depresses the protrusions. Each protrusion can be connected in an operative manner to a shaft via a gear, and/or to a lever which is connected in an operative manner to shaft, thereby rotating the shaft by converting linear motion to rotational motion. A generator, flywheel, and gearbox can be coupled to one or more shaft.

A magnetic marker is embedded in a road, and is configured to be detected by a magnetic sensor provided in a vehicle. The magnetic marker is provided with a case accommodating a magnet and a protective material covering the magnet, and an anchor that is provided protruding downward from the case and that is configured to expand in diameter in a state of being embedded in the road.

A magnetic marker is embedded in a road, and is configured to be detected by a magnetic sensor provided in a vehicle. The magnetic marker is provided with a case accommodating a magnet and a protective material covering the magnet, and an anchor that is provided protruding downward from the case and that is configured to expand in diameter in a state of being embedded in the road.
Road module for regulation of vehicle passability at a road section
A road module for regulating a passability of vehicles on a roadway. The road module includes an elongated container immersed across the roadway and having an upper plane being essentially at level with the roadway. A lid is pivotally arranged and hinged along an edge of the container. The edge extends along a longitudinal side of the container facing vehicles approaching the road module. The lid forms at least a part of the upper plane of the container. An eccentrically mounted cylindrical roller is configured to support the lid at an opposite longitudinal side of the container. The roller is rotatable between an upper or a lower position. An actuator is configured to rotate the roller to lower and raise the lid, thereby forming a downward ramp in a passing direction of the vehicles when the roller is in the lower position.
