Cylinder head structure of internal combustion engine

A spark plug includes a ground electrode, an insulator, and a center electrode. In a case where a first position of a surface of the ground electrode exposed to a side of an inner wall surface of a cylinder head is a most downstream position in an air flow direction between the center electrode and the ground electrode, and a second position of the inner wall surface of the cylinder head is a position closest to the center electrode on a downstream side of the center electrode in an air flow direction, the spark plug is installed at a position where the first position and the second position are on a same air flow line, or at a position where the first position is recessed to a side where the first position recedes from the inner wall surface than the second position.

Control apparatus for compression-ignition type engine

A control apparatus for a compression-ignition type engine is applied to an engine capable of carrying out partial compression ignition combustion in which an air-fuel mixture is subjected to CI combustion by self-ignition. The control apparatus creates a lean A/F environment where an air-fuel ratio as a ratio between air and fuel in a cylinder exceeds 20 and is lower than 35, or a lean G/F environment where a gas air-fuel ratio as a ratio between entire gas and the fuel in the cylinder exceeds 18 and is lower than 50 and the air-fuel ratio substantially matches a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Prior to planned timing of the CI combustion, in the lean A/F environment or the lean G/F environment, the control apparatus causes an ignition plug to generate a spark and to generate a high-temperature portion.

Ignition source adapted for positioning within a combustion chamber

An opposed-piston engine optionally contains an ignition system that is at least partially contained within the combustion chamber to enhance the combustion efficiency of a fuel-air mixture within the combustion system. More specifically, the ignition system contains at least one spark plug having an elongated center electrical delivery electrode, and, an elongated ground electrode. Accordingly, the elongated electrodes extend from an area adjacent to the inner periphery of the cylinder to a radially central area within the combustion chamber. Yet further, a cooling jacket is incorporated to provide cooling of the spark plug.

Energy packet control of generator prime mover

A controller may use energy packets to control a prime mover of a machine. The controller may include an energy packet measurement control to calculate energy packets and convert the energy packets into a fuel valve reference. Further, a frequency control may receive system feedback associated with the monitored machine and generate a frequency correction based on the system feedback. The controller may add the energy packet value and the frequency correction to determine a prime mover power reference and provide the prime mover power reference to a fuel valve control of the machine.
