The device handle is preferably made from a wood material, such as hickory wood, and the device head is preferably made from a durable metal material, such as tempered steel. The hook portions of the device are used for poking and moving burning materials (such as wood blocks) around the fire pit; and the substantially flat portion is used for shoveling and moving the burning materials.

In some embodiments, the portable fire pit also includes a cover that converts to a table, as well as a suspension grate to hold firewood and a grill rack to hold food above the fire pit. The grill rack may be configured to be located at different heights above the fire pit, and may also be configured to rotate between positions directly over and to the side of the fire pit.
