SENSORS, INTERFACES AND SENSOR SYSTEMS FOR DATA COLLECTION AND INTEGRATED MONITORING OF CONDITIONS AT OR NEAR BODY SURFACES

Sensing devices including sensors such as flexible and stretchable fabric-based pressure sensors, may be associated with or incorporated in garments, such as socks, intended to be worn against a body surface (directly or indirectly). Specific manifestations of a sensing system incorporated in a sock substrate are described in detail. Dedicated electronic devices interface electrically with sensors through intermediate conductive traces, optional conductive bridges, conductive contacts provided in a mounting tab.

METHOD FOR ASSEMBLING OPTICAL MODULE
20180003907 · 2018-01-04 ·

An alignment apparatus and an alignment method that enables to align an optical device with a receptacle, where the optical device and the receptacle have respective axes tilted to each other. The method includes steps of: (1) obtaining a minimum pressure caused to the optical device from the receptacle as varying a rolling angle around the X-axis of the optical device but fixing the pitching angle around the Y-axis at a rotating angle around the Z-axis; (2) determining a rotating angle where thus obtained minimum pressure becomes the minimum; and (3) iterating those procedures until the rotating angle obtained as varying the rolling angle and another rotating angle obtained as varying the pitching angle substantially coincides to each other.

A FORCE MEASUREMENT MECHANISM

A force measurement mechanism comprises two force input members (105, 106), a pair of cantilever springs (101, 102), and a force measuring means (107). One portion of each cantilever spring is held by a first constraint means (103) and one portion of each cantilever spring is held by a second constraint means (104) with each cantilever spring having an unconstrained length between the first and second constraint means that is free to bend. The constraint means (103, 104) hold the cantilever springs (101, 102) in a parallel and spaced apart arrangement. The force input members (105, 106) are attached via the constraint means so that relative movement of the force input members bends the cantilever springs (101, 02), and the force measuring means (107) is arranged to measure force applied between the force input members.

Fiber optic system for detecting forces on and measuring deformation of an anthropomorphic test device

A system for detecting forces on and measuring deformation of an anthropomorphic test device (ATD) includes a plurality of body parts and at least one optical fiber supported by and in contact with at least one of the body parts. The body parts form the ATD and simulate at least a part of a human body and the articulation of the human body. The optical fiber extends between a first end and a second end and comprises a plurality of sensors disposed between the ends. An emitter is in communication with the optical fiber for emitting a light having a predetermined band of wavelengths through the optical fiber that is reflected by the sensors and an interrogator is in communication with the optical fiber for detecting the reflected light from the sensor such that changes to the reflected light indicate a strain on the at least one body part.

Discrete Assemblers Utilizing Conventional Motion Systems

An alternative to additive manufacturing is disclosed, introducing an end-to-end workflow in which discrete building blocks are reversibly joined to produce assemblies called digital materials. Described is the design of the bulk-material building blocks and the devices that are assembled from them. Detailed is the design and implementation of an automated assembler, which takes advantage of the digital material structure to avoid positioning errors within a large tolerance. To generate assembly sequences, a novel CAD/CAM workflow is described for designing, simulating, and assembling digital materials. The structures assembled using this process have been evaluated, showing that the joints perform well under varying conditions and that the assembled structures are functionally precise.

SHAFT SHEAR DETECTION THROUGH SHAFT OSCILLATION
20180010980 · 2018-01-11 ·

There is described a shaft shear event detection method. The method comprises obtaining a demodulated waveform of a shaft oscillation wave superimposed on a shaft rotational speed signal, comparing the amplitude to an amplitude threshold, detecting oscillation when the amplitude threshold is exceeded for a plurality of samples, and detecting a shaft shear when oscillation continues for a predetermined time limit.
