DETECT AND DIFFERENTIATE TOUCHES FROM DIFFERENT SIZE CONDUCTIVE OBJECTS ON A CAPACITIVE BUTTON
Apparatuses and methods of distinguishing between a finger and stylus proximate to a touch surface are described. One apparatus includes a first circuit to obtain capacitance measurements of sense elements when a conductive object is proximate to a touch surface. The apparatus also includes a second circuit coupled to the first circuit. The second circuit is operable to detect whether the conductive object activates the first sense element, second sense element, or both, in view of the capacitance measurements. To distinguish between a stylus and a finger as the conductive object, the second circuit determines the conductive object as being the stylus when the second sense element is activated and the first sense element is not activated and determines the conductive object as being the finger when the first sense element and the second sense element are activated.

Current sensing in a wireless power transfer system
A current sensing method measures a fractional current through a coil having a plurality of coil windings by using a current sensing resistor to measure a current through a subset of the plurality of coil windings and using a voltage sensor to measure a voltage drop across the current sensing resistor. The measured current and voltage values are provided to a processor to determine the fractional current and phase of the coil. For example, the fractional current and phase of the coil may be determined by calculating a total current of the coil as I=n(V/Rx), where n is the number of coil windings of the coil, V is the measured voltage, and Rx is the impedance of the current sensing resistor. The coil may be a secondary winding used in a wireless power transfer system.

The contact includes a tip, a body, and a tail; and is configured to be in a free state, a preload state, and an actuated state. The housing includes a housing backstop. When the contact is in the preload state, a contact backstop of the contact is biased against the housing backstop.
Sensor and method for foreign object detection in induction electric charger
The invention detects foreign objects FO near a primary coil 100 of an induction charger. A sensors 111 of a sensor array 110 output sensing signals in response to magnetically coupling the alternating magnetic field 103 produced by the primary coil. A controller 165 connected to each sensor 111 scans the sensing signals and determines whether there is a foreign object perturbing the magnetic field 103 near a sensor. The magnetic field has a spatial distribution that varies by location across the primary coil area. Each sensor has a magnetic field sensing sensitivity that is inversely proportional to the magnetic intensity of the magnetic field produced by the primary coil at a location of the sensor, to reduce the collective dynamic range of the signals, thereby contributing to maintaining a high accuracy in signal sampling. A reference sensor coil 155 compensates for magnetic field drift of the primary coil.
