Disclosed is a sensor system for a docking station including a receiving portion, a topside of the receiving portion for receiving an electronic device, a bottom side of the receiving portion, a first magnetic sensor on the bottom side of the receiving portion for detecting the presence of the electronic device. The sensor system can further include a second magnetic sensor on the bottom side of the receiving portion for detecting the presence of the electronic device. The first sensor can be positioned to correspond to the position of the first speaker when the electronic device is seated in the topside of the receiving portion and the second sensor can be positioned to correspond to the position of the second speaker when the electronic device is seated in the topside of the receiving portion. Sensor system can detect the presence and proper position of an electronic device in a docking station by having magnetic sensors to detect a magnetic field emitted by the speakers of the electronic device.

A method and system are provided for improved pedestrian dead reckoning. In an embodiment, the crab angle of a device, i.e., the angle by which the device direction of travel differs from the device orientation, is determined via the processing of measurements from a vector accelerometer. The measured acceleration vector is rotated so that one component is vertical, and the crab angle is then found by determining a horizontal direction having the greatest energy. Correlations between the two horizontal acceleration components and the vertical acceleration component may be computed to determine the user's gait, further improving dead reckoning, e.g., for improving indoor position resolution.

Method and system for video-based positioning and mapping utilizing a pixel wise segmentation on an image of a detected object

A method and system for determining a geographical location and orientation of a vehicle travelling through a road network is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining, from one or more cameras associated with the vehicle travelling through the road network, a sequence of images reflecting the environment of the road network on which the vehicle is travelling, wherein each of the images has an associated camera location at which the image was recorded. A local map representation representing an area of the road network on which the vehicle is travelling is then generated using at least some of the obtained images and the associated camera locations. The generated local map representation is compared with a section of a reference map, the reference map section covering the area of the road network on which the vehicle is travelling, and the geographical location and orientation of the vehicle within the road network is determined based on the comparison. Methods and systems for generating and/or updating an electronic map using data obtained by a vehicle travelling through a road network represented by the map are also disclosed.
