Secure Pairing of Devices Via Pairing Facilitator-Intermediary Device
The present inventions, in one aspect, are directed to systems and circuitry for and/or methods of establishing communication having one or more pairing facilitator-intermediary devices (for example, a network connected server) to enable or facilitate pairing and/or registering at least two devices (e.g., (i) a portable biometric monitoring device and (ii) a smartphone, laptop and/or tablet) to, for example, recognize, interact and/or enable interoperability between such devices. The pairing facilitator-intermediary device may responsively communicates information to one or more of the devices (to be paired or registered) which, in response, enable or facilitate such devices to pair or register. The present inventions may be advantageous where one or both of the devices to be paired or registered is/are not configured (e.g., include a user interface or certain communication circuitry that is configured or includes functionality) to pair devices without use of a facilitator-intermediary device.
Systems and methods to measure the population of mobile devices in a predefined geographical region
Systems and method to measure a population size of mobile devices that have visited a region during a time period, by: converting location data of mobile devices into visitation data using a grid reference system, where for each mobile device and each of a plurality of time intervals in the time period, the visitation data identifies whether or not the mobile device has visited the region in the time interval; applying the visitation data as a capture history in an imaginary capture-recapture exercise, where whether or not a device has visited the region during a time interval represents whether the device is captured in the exercise in the respective capture occasion corresponding to the time interval; and estimating the population size based on an estimate of a population size of mobile devices that are not captured in the exercise from a capture-recapture statistical modeling of the capture history.
Methods, systems and devices for activity tracking device data synchronization with computing devices
Methods, devices and system are provided. One method includes capturing activity data associated with activity of a user via a device. The activity data is captured over time, and the activity data is quantifiable by a plurality of metrics. The method includes storing the activity data in storage of the device and, from time to time, connecting the device with a computing device over a wireless communication link. The method defines using a first transfer rate for transferring activity data captured and stored over a period of time. The first transfer rate is used following startup of an activity tracking application on the computing device The method also defines using a second transfer rate for transferring activity data from the device to the computing device for display of the activity data in substantial-real time on the computing device.

Number of Steps Measuring Device, Method, and Program
A first calculation unit synthesizes respective measured values of acceleration of an X-axis, a Y-axis and a Z-axis measured by a measurement unit and calculates the synthesized acceleration. A second calculation unit calculates acceleration in a body axis direction (vertical direction) of a wearer wearing the measurement unit from the respective measured values of acceleration of the X-axis, the Y-axis and the Z-axis. The third calculation unit calculates amplitude of a time variation of acceleration in the body axis direction calculated by the second calculation unit. A reference setting unit sets a reference time for determining one step based on the amplitude calculated by the third calculation unit. A walking detection unit detects one-step walking motion of the wearer, a one-step time of which falls within a range of the reference time based on the synthesized acceleration.
Pedometer device, step counting method, and recording medium
To reduce false counts of a device that counts a user's step count. A pedometer device, a step counting method, and a recording medium are provided. The pedometer devices includes: an acquiring unit that acquires a sensor signal output by a sensor carried by a user; an extracting unit that extracts a feature quantity from the sensor signal; a storage unit that stores a walking model which represents walking motions, the walking model being formed based on a feature quantity extracted from a sensor signal corresponding to a predetermined number of steps of walking; a comparing unit that compares the feature quantity extracted at the extracting unit with the walking model; and a deciding unit that decides whether the user has walked a predetermined number of steps, based on a result of the comparison performed by the comparing unit.

STEP-COUNT MANAGEMENT APPARATUS
[Problem] To allow a person who performs the act of walking to receive a certain amount of money commensurate with the number of steps the person makes, thereby motivating the person to perform the act of walking and facilitating medical cost reduction.
[Solution] A step-count management apparatus includes: a means configured to store the number of steps measured by a pedometer; a means configured to store the balance of electronic money owned by the user; a means configured to compute first information that indicates a medical cost reduction effect by multiplying the number of steps by a first coefficient that indicates a medical cost reduction effect per step; a means configured to report the first information to a health insurance server device; a means configured to acquire, from the health insurance server device, second information that can be cashed and is computed by multiplying the first information by a second coefficient for computing the second information; a means configured to add an amount of money that is computed by multiplying the second information by a third coefficient for converting the second information into electronic money, to the balance of electronic money; and a means configured to request the health insurance server device to cash the second information that has been convrted into electronic money.
