An interposer with a spring on a surface of the interposer is disclosed. The spring may apply a force to a surface of a component adjacent to the interposer. The interposer may be secured to the surface by a fastener. The fastener may be offset from the center of the interposer. The fastener may be a fulcrum of a lever including the interposer and the spring. The spring may cause a portion of the interposer on the other side of the fastener from the spring to apply an increased amount of pressure to the surface to which the interposer is secured. A transesophageal exam ultrasound probe including an interposer is disclosed.

SOUNDPROOF STRUCTURE AND SOUNDPROOF STRUCTURE MANUFACTURING METHOD

A soundproof structure includes one or more soundproof cells. Each of the one or more soundproof cells includes a frame having a hole portion, a vibratable film fixed to the frame so as to cover the hole portion, and one or more through holes drilled in the film. Both end portions of the hole portion of the frame are not closed, and the frame and the film are formed of the same material and are integrally formed. Therefore, it is possible to provide a soundproof structure and a soundproof structure manufacturing method capable of not only stably insulating sound due to increased resistance to environmental change or aging but also avoiding problems in manufacturing, such as uniform adhesion or bonding of a film to a frame.

Systems and Methods for Quality Control of a Periodic Structure

Quality control of a periodic structure is performed using the damping rate of acoustic waves generated in the periodic structure. In this technique, an excitation light beam illuminates the first layer in the periodic structure to excite an acoustic wave. Possible irregularities in the periodic structure can scatter the acoustic wave, thereby increasing the damping rate of the acoustic wave. A sequence of probe light beams illuminates the periodic structure to measure the acoustic wave as a function of time to generated a temporal signal representing the damping rate of the acoustic signal. The acquired damping rate is employed to evaluate the quality of the periodic structure.

SPEAKER SYSTEM AND SOUND OUTPUT METHOD

This speaker system includes: a speaker device that is disposed outside a region of a projection surface on which a display surface of a display is projected, the speaker device functioning as a real sound source; and a reflector that has a reflection surface reflecting a sound output from the speaker device, the reflector localizing a sound image of a virtual sound source within the region of the projection surface. The reflector has an elliptical reflection surface in at least a part of the reflection surface. With this configuration, the sound output from the speaker device disposed outside the region of the projection surface is reflected on the reflector, and a sound image thereof is localized within the region of the projection surface, whereby it is possible to bring a display position of a video into alignment with an output position of the sound. Thus, a comfortable viewing state can be ensured for a viewer.
