STABILIZATION AND TUNING OF PERSISTENT CURRENTS USING VARIABLE INDUCTANCE
An alternative approach to flux pumping in superconducting devices is described for fast and extremely precise tuning of the current during persistent mode operation. Rather than bringing in new flux from outside the circuit, the alternative approach stores a small flux in a tunable inductor (also referred to herein as a “flux bank”) at the initial point of powering. Flux can be transferred back and forth from this bank to the main coil by simply changing the inductance of the bank. This allows for fine and fast adjustments of the persistent current without the use of thermal switches found in other approaches (which limit the adjustment speed and accuracy).
Electric Power Converter for a Photovoltaic Energy Source
An electric power converter for a photovoltaic energy source, including: an inverter to receive a dynamically changing DC signal generated by the photovoltaic energy source and to generate a corresponding dynamically changing AC signal having a frequency substantially equal to a mains supply frequency; and an electromagnetic apparatus, including: a magnetic core and a plurality of windings around the magnetic core. The windings include: one or more input windings to receive the dynamically changing AC signal as an AC input; one or more output windings to provide an AC output signal; and control windings configured to control electromagnetic coupling between the input and output windings; and a control component configured to dynamically control electrical currents through the control windings so that the electrical characteristics of the AC output signal are relatively constant despite the dynamically changing AC signal and include a fundamental frequency equal to the mains supply frequency.

TUNABLE INTEGRATED VOLTAGE REGULATOR
An integrated voltage regulator (IVR) for on-chip integrated circuit applications may include a tunable inductor that may be adjusted to generate a target output for the IVR. The tunable inductor may include a piezoelectric material that may cause the relative permeability of the inductor to change based on an applied stimulus voltage. A control circuit may receive a target value, such as a target output voltage, and retrieve or calculate a target inductance value or voltage to be applied to the inductor to generate the target output value. A feedback circuit may monitor the output value and adjust the switching frequency or voltage applied to the inductor during operation in order to adjust the output value.
