Low loss reflective passive phase shifter using time delay element with double resolution

A phase shifter for altering the phase of a radio frequency signal is disclosed herein. A Lange coupler is used having reflective ports that are coupled to artificial transmission lines. The artificial transmission lines provide a reflection transmission path, the length of which can be determined by digital control lines. Transistors placed along the length of the central trace provide independent paths to ground that serve to shorten the electrical length of the ATL. Accordingly, by selectively turning the transistors on/off, the electrical length of the ATL can be selected and thus the amount of phase delay introduced by the phase shifter.

A programmable impedance element consists of a plurality of nominally identical two-port elements, each two-port element having an impedance element and two switches, the two-port elements arranged in a chain fashion with a structured set of switches such that a range of impedances can be obtained from each cell by dynamically changing the connections between the impedance elements in the cell. The common cell is constructed by connecting the nominally identical two-port impedance elements in a way that the number of possible combinations of the impedance elements is reduced to the subset of all possible combinations that uses the minimum possible number of connections. This structure allows the creation of matched impedances using industry standard devices. The connections between impedance elements are switches that may be “field-programmable,” i.e., that may be set on the chip after manufacture and configured during operation of the circuit, or alternatively may be mask programmable.

An apparatus for shifting a digital signal having a first sample rate by a shift time to provide a shifted signal having a second sample rate is provided. The apparatus includes a sample rate converter configured to provide a value of an interpolated signal at a compensated sample time as a sample of the shifted signal, the interpolated signal being based on the digital signal. The sample rate converter is configured to modify a time interval between a sample time of the digital signal and the compensated sample time based on the shift time.

CONVOLUTIONS WITH OPTICAL FINITE IMPULSE RESPONSE FILTERS

A method of processing data and related apparatuses. The method relies on an optical finite impulse response (FIR) filter. This optical FIR filter comprises several delay stages having weights set in accordance with parameters of a transformation to be applied by the optical FIR filter. Each of the delay stages is configured to impose a delay matched to a given input data period corresponding to a given input sample rate. According to the method, an optical signal is coupled into the optical FIR filter. The optical signal carries a data stream of input samples encoded at the given input sample rate; the data stream represents the data to be processed. Next, output samples are collected from an output data stream carried by an output optical signal obtained in output of the optical FIR filter. A set of output samples are obtained, which are representative of processed data.

The utility circuit may be coupled to the magnitude bit truncation circuit, for handling the truncated signal to implement handling of the target signal, so as to reduce resource requirement and enhance error tolerance comparing with directly handling the target signal.

Biquad stage systems and methods include receiving at biquad sections a signal sample, generating, by each biquad section, a pair of output values based on the signal sample, including a first value based on fixed-point processing path and a second value emulating a floating-point processing path, and accumulating the pair of output values from each of the plurality of biquad sections to generate an output signal. The biquad stage receives an N-bit input signal, which is processed by a biquad section. Delay elements delay the signal sample before input to other biquad sections. The delayed signal sample is input to the first processing path and the second processing path of a corresponding biquad stage. By performing the processing based on two paths, a more accurate result can be found when using a reduced word length in the multiply operations resulting in a lowering of the power consumption.
