An extracting method of extracting a beverage liquid from an extraction target includes a pressure reduction step of switching an interior of an extraction container in which the extraction target and a liquid are stored from a first air pressure to a second air pressure lower than the first air pressure, and an extraction step of extracting the beverage liquid from the extraction target. The first air pressure is an air pressure at which the liquid at a predetermined temperature does not boil, and the second air pressure is an air pressure at which the liquid that does not boil at the first air pressure boils. The switching from the first air pressure to the second air pressure is done by releasing the air pressure in the extraction container.

A coffee brewing apparatus comprising a canister for holding coffee grounds and hot water in which the coffee brews. The canister has a closable opening through which the coffee grounds and hot water are poured. A filter covers an opening at the bottom of the canister through which brewed coffee flows out of the canister. A hand pump is coupled to an opening in the canister, operable to increase air pressure inside the canister. The canister inhibits the leakage of air or liquid while the coffee is brewing. The hand pump is used to increase air pressure inside the canister to a high pressure sufficient to push the brewed coffee through the filter and out of the canister.

The cup may releasably couple to the first portion of the coupling mechanism of the bottom end of the hollow cylinder. The pump may be configured to pump air from the cup out the opening so as to force a fluid from the hollow cylinder through the basket and into the cup.

The pump includes a pump housing that defines a pump chamber configured to pressurize air, and defines a pump outlet for exhausting pressurized air. The pump includes an outlet valve fluidly connected with the pump outlet. The outlet valve allows air to exit the pump chamber and prevents air from entering the pump chamber through the pump outlet. The water chamber is fluidly connected with the pump chamber through the outlet valve for receiving pressurized air from the pump chamber. The water chamber defines a water chamber outlet for exhausting pressurized air and water from the water chamber. The portafilter basket is fluidly connected with the water chamber for receiving pressurized water from the water chamber through the water chamber outlet. The portafilter basket is configured to store grounds, and to express a brewed beverage.
