Dross management system and method
A dross processing assembly includes a stirring station at which dross in a first dross recovery vessel is stirred and a pressing station at which previously stirred dross in a second dross recovery vessel is pressed simultaneously with the stirring of the dross in the first dross recovery vessel. The stirring station and the pressing station may be commonly housed in an enclosure. A conveyor system may advance dross recovery vessels through the dross processing assembly for continuous dross processing.
Product comprising recycled aluminum alloy wheel fragments and an alloying supplement, and methods and system for producing same
A product comprising recycled metal fragments and an alloying supplement, and methods and system for producing same. In some examples, the product comprises a container, shot blasted pieces of aluminum alloy wheels and an alloying supplement. In some examples, the product also comprises an indication on the container of a composition estimate of the combined shot blasted pieces and alloying supplement. In other examples, the indication and/or the alloying supplement may be provided by a company in the business of providing alloying supplements.
Method and system for estimating waste metal batch composition
Described herein is a method for recycling aluminum alloy wheels. The method includes the steps of providing a feed of aluminum alloy wheels of a particular alloy; fragmenting a quantity of the aluminum alloy wheels into a plurality of fragments; subjecting the plurality of fragments to shot blasting to remove surface impurities from the plurality of fragments to produce a plurality of shot blasted pieces; separating the plurality of shot blasted pieces into a plurality of larger shot blasted pieces and a plurality of smaller shot blasted pieces; and, estimating a composition of the plurality of larger shot blasted pieces by selecting multiple shot blasted pieces from the plurality of smaller shot blasted pieces and then measuring the composition of the multiple shot blasted pieces.
METHODS OF EXTRACTION OF PRODUCTS FROM TITANIUM-BEARING MATERIALS
The invention relates to processes for the extraction of products from titanium-bearing materials or a composition produced in a process for the production of titanium dioxide, and more particularly, although not exclusively, extracting titanium dioxide and/or one or more other products from iron making slag.
ALUMINUM ALLOYS FOR STRUCTURAL HIGH PRESSURE VACUUM DIE CASTING APPLICATIONS
A vehicle part formed at least in part of a blended material is provided. The blended material is formed by mixing an improved aluminum alloy and a recycled aluminum alloy. The recycled aluminum alloy can be obtained from road wheels. The blended alloy preferable meets the Aural series alloy specifications. The blended material can be cast under high pressure and a vacuum to form a part designed for use in a chassis or structural body of a vehicle, for example a front subframe, a front shock tower, a rear rail, a front kick-down rail, a front body hinge pillar, a tunnel, a front body hinge pillar, or a rear shock mount.
METHOD OF RECYCLING A STRUCTURE OR AT LEAST A PORTION THEREOF, AND COMPONENT FOR AN AIRCRAFT OR SPACECRAFT
A method of recycling a structure or at least a portion thereof, and component for an aircraft or spacecraft. The structure comprises components connected to each other and each made from a metal alloy. The method includes producing, at least from a plurality of the components, including components made from at least two different metal alloys, a powder adapted to being used as a starting material in an additive manufacturing process. Also, a component for an aircraft or spacecraft, made using additive manufacturing, the component being produced a powder obtained in accordance with the method.
Method and system for improving waste metal batch composition
Described herein is a method for recycling aluminum alloy wheels. The method includes the steps of providing a feed of aluminum alloy wheels of a particular alloy; fragmenting a quantity of the aluminum alloy wheels into a plurality of fragments; subjecting the plurality of fragments to shot blasting to remove surface impurities from the plurality of fragments to produce a plurality of shot blasted pieces; separating the plurality of shot blasted pieces into a plurality of larger shot blasted pieces and a plurality of smaller shot blasted pieces; and, providing the plurality of larger shot blasted pieces for use in producing a recycled aluminum alloy, without providing the plurality of smaller shot blasted pieces for use in producing that recycled aluminum alloy.
ENERGY EFFICIENT SALT-FREE RECOVERY OF METAL FROM DROSS
A process and an apparatus are disclosed for improved recovery of metal from hot and cold dross, wherein a dross-treating furnace is provided with a filling material with capacity to store heat. This filling material is preheated to a desired temperature by injection of an oxidizing gas to burn non-recoverable metal remaining in the filling material after tapping of the recoverable metal contained in the dross and discharging of the treatment residue. When dross is treated in such furnace, the heat emanating by conduction from the filling material is sufficient to melt and separate the recoverable metal contained in the dross, without addition of an external heat source, such as fuel or gas burners, plasma torches or electric arcs and without use of any salt fluxes. Furthermore, the recovered metal being in the molten state can be fed to the molten metal holding furnace without cooling the melt.
OXIDATIVE ROASTING OF BLACK DROSS AND SALT CAKE
Salt components of dross can be extracted efficiently through evaporation. During dross treatment, temperatures can be permitted to approach or exceed the boiling point of one or more salt components of the dross, preferably in an oxidizing environment. The temperature can be held sufficiently high such that the salt content can exert an appreciable vapor pressure and can be held for a sufficient time to permit most, all, or substantially all of the salt content to evaporate and be carried away from the kiln in combustion gasses. The evaporated salt can be condensed and collected.
