Apparatus and methods for filtering metals
An apparatus and method for filtering molten metal, such as aluminum or an aluminum alloy includes at least one ceramic foam filter or any other type of filtration media such as porous tube or alumina balls disposed in a receptacle for the molten metal. A vibrator vibrates at least one of the filter, the receptacle or the metal and may be used to induce priming, filtering and/or drainage of the filter. The vibrator may be retrofitted to an existing filter system and may be adjustable in frequency and amplitude. The vibration may be continuous over a given period or produced in a single shock.
Method of casting articles from aluminium alloys
The invention relates to the field of aluminum metallurgy and can be used to produce ingots from high quality aluminum alloys when manufacturing aerospace and automotive products. The use of this invention relates to the technology of secondary modification. The method of casting products from aluminum alloys includes the following stages: a) aluminum melt preparation in the alloying furnace; b) addition alloy introduction into melt; c) degassing of the aluminum melt containing the addition alloy; d) addition alloy re-introduction; e) filtration of the aluminum melt obtained at stage d) and f) feeding the filtered melt into the crystallizer. It ensures the improved effectiveness of the aluminum melt modification with addition alloys without additional constructional changes in existing lines for aluminum ingot casting. It allows reducing the alloy modification costs, decreasing the grain in resulting alloys and improving plastic and mechanical properties of the obtained cast ingots and their products.
Filtration device for the filtration of a liquid metal or an alloy thereof, and a filtration method using said filtration device
Filtration devices are provided with original structural features to allow a better stiffness of the same and prevent the possibility of being distorted and/or driven under the pressure of a flux of liquid metal or an alloy thereof which is passing there through. Said features may consist of a ridge portion extending the periphery of a filtration device, a rim portion provided in double-basket filtration devices, or a particular M shape filtration device.
Apparatus and methods for filtering metals
An apparatus and method for filtering molten metal (M), such as aluminum or an aluminum alloy includes at least one ceramic foam filter or any other type of filtration media such as porous tube or alumina balls disposed in a receptacle (12) for the molten metal (M). A vibrator vibrates at least one of the filter, the receptacle (12) or the metal and may be used to induce priming, filtering and/or drainage of the filter. The vibrator may be retrofitted to an existing filter system and may be adjustable in frequency and amplitude. The vibration may be continuous over a given period or produced in a single shock.
Molten metal filtration device
This filtration device 10 has a can body 20 having a reservoir 3 that connects to an opening 9 at the top, and a filtration unit 40 which is detachably installed in the reservoir. The filtration unit has a support plate 42, and filtration tubes 41 of bottomed cylindrical shape fastened to the support plate. The side wall 22 of the can body 20 has a protruding locking part 30 for installation of the filtration unit so that the filtration tubes are suspended from the support plate 42, with the openings 43 thereof facing upward. With the support plate 42 locked into the locking part 30, pressing members 70 for pressing the support plate 42 downward from the upper surface side in sections thereof lying towards the peripheral edge S in relation to the fastening locations of the filtration tubes 41 are deployed, making it possible for the support plate 42 to be fastened in clamped fashion by the locking part 30 and the pressing members 70.
METHODS OF RECYCLING ALUMINUM ALLOYS AND PURIFICATION THEREOF
The present disclosure relates to methods of producing purified aluminum alloys from aluminum alloy scrap by producing a melt of the aluminum alloy scrap, adding one or more intermetallic former materials, producing iron-bearing intermetallic particles, removing the iron-bearing intermetallic particles, and solidifying the low-iron melt.
Metallurgical apparatus
A metallurgical apparatus comprises a vessel for holding a body of liquid metal and a circulating apparatus for circulating the body of liquid metal within the vessel. The vessel has a peripheral wall and a base, and the circulating apparatus comprises a launder that provides an open-topped flow channel and a pumping device for pumping liquid metal through the launder. The launder has an inlet end connected to a first opening in the peripheral wall and an outlet end connected to a second opening in the peripheral wall. The pumping device is configured to pump liquid metal through the launder so that liquid metal flows out of the vessel through the first opening and into the vessel through the second opening, thereby causing the body of liquid metal within the vessel to circulate.
METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR TREATMENT OF MOLTEN ALUMINIUM METAL
A method and an equipment for the treatment of molten aluminium metal, in particular Na removal in a tapping/transport crucible (1) provided with a lid (6). The atmosphere above the molten metal is sub-pressurized to a sub pressure between 300-10 mbar and subsequently exposed to a stirring action generated by an electromagnetic coil (EMS) arranged towards one side of the tapping/transport crucible (1), whereby Na can be removed from the molten aluminium metal without any addition of active or passive agents.
Sludge Removal Devices, Systems, and Methods
Methods for removing sludge and/or impurities from a molten metal are disclosed herein, as well as sludge removal devices and systems for use in the methods. Sludge removal devices that can reduce the downstream deposition of sludge in certain process components through upstream deposition and subsequent removal from the molten metal are also disclosed.
