A flat steel product for hot forming may be produced from a steel substrate that includes a steel comprising 0.1-3% by weight Mn and up to 0.01% by weight B, along with a protective coating that is applied to the steel substrate. The protective coating may be based on Al and may contain up to 20% by weight of other alloy elements. Also disclosed are methods for producing such flat steel products, steel components, and methods for producing steel components. Absorption of hydrogen is minimized during heating necessary for hot forming. This is achieved at least in part through an alloy constituent of 0.1-0.5% by weight of at least one alkaline earth or transition metal in the protective coating, wherein an oxide of the alkaline earth or transition metal is formed on an outer surface of the protective coating during hot forming of the flat steel product.

DIAMOND-LIKE COATING FOR PISTON RING SURFACES, PISTON RING AND PROCESSES FOR PREPARING THE SAME

The present invention relates to a diamond-like coating for piston ring surfaces, comprising, an underlayer, a gradient layer and an AM layer, wherein the AM layer is a diamond-like coating doped with doping elements. The doping elements are one or a combination of at least two selected from the group consisting of Cr, Si and Ti, and the content thereof shows a cyclical change in a form of a sine wave fluctuation along with the thickness change of the AM layer. As compared with the conventional single-layer structure or gradient layer structure, the AM layer of such diamond-like coating has a multi-cycle transition structure since the content of the doping elements in the AM layer of such diamond-like coating shows a cyclical change in a sine wave fluctuation form. On the basis of having high wear-resistant and low friction coefficient, it is beneficial to decrease the internal stress of the coating, increase the tenacity of the coating, ensure the increase of the thickness of diamond-like coating, and improve the durability of piston ring of diamond-like coating at the same time.

Vapor deposition processes for forming thin films comprising molybdenum on a substrate are provide. In some embodiments the processes comprise a plurality of deposition cycles in which the substrate is separately contacted with a vapor phase molybdenum precursor comprising a molybdenum halide, a first reactant comprising CO, and a second reactant comprising H.sub.2. In some embodiments the thin film comprises MoC, Mo.sub.2C, or MoOC. In some embodiments the substrate is additionally contacted with a nitrogen reactant and a thin film comprising molybdenum, carbon and nitrogen is deposited, such as MoCN or MoOCN.
